   The song is about Freddie’s struggle with wanting to be a performer while his father wanted him to be an accountant. “it’s so easy, but I can’t do it” (being an accountant), “It’s so risky, but I’ve got to chance it” (becoming a performer), “I can’t be what you want me to be, but I’m no fool, it’s in the lap of the gods” Whatever happens, his future will be decided by the gods of fate.

   i think in a way, the original and revisited could be 2 related messages; the revisited is about letting go of something ( a relationship? ) and in the original mentions ‘leave it in the lap of the gods’ as a motif in the song- making their connection be about leaving a relationship to fate and it not always working out ? i don’t know; i’m really tired as i’m writing this- but i just wanted to see what other people thought

   This song is about betrayal. A lover's betrayal and selfishness. It is about letting go, letting it be "in the lap of the gods" release of the pain that it caused. It is a meditative melody, in my opinion.
