Queen: Mother Love Meaning
Mother Love Lyrics
I don't need the passion too
I don't want a stormy affair
To make me feel my life is heading somewhere
All I want is the comfort and care
Just to know that my woman gives me sweet -
Mother love
I've walked...

#1 top rated interpretation:It's about Mary.
She was the first love in his life. She understood him emotionally. He kept her by his side all throughout his life...consulted her with big decisions... lived with her at Garden Lodge...willed her everything. She sat by his side at the end...she loved and cared for him like that of a really close friend...or that of a mother.
I also believe the last words from Days of our Lives "I still love you" were to her. He emotionally loved the women in his life...he physically loved the men in it. -
Was ein Mensch. Sehr große Verlust, dass er von uns sehr zu früh gegangen ist.

It's about having someone by your side at the end of your life who can care for you like that of a mother and shield you from the cold uncaring world by letting you emotionally "inside" with them by having honest love beyond physical appearances.
What makes this song one of my favorites and particularly special is that when Brian May picks up the vocals it's because Freddie Mercury couldn't finish them as he had died. So it is very chilling and emotional hearing some of Freddie's last vocals about how he wanted to be cared for just before his sad passing, also a highly relatable song for people who want not just a sex partner but someone to actually care for and to be cared for. -
I feel that the line, "mamma please let me back inside", refers to the womb. The world is so painful but the womb is a safe haven. It's just my take on that line.
-
I think many of the interpretations people have put above may be part of the meanings behind this song but one has to realise that Brian May wrote the majority of the lyrics.....Freddie is quoted by Brian as saying "just write me stuff to sing!" as he was too ill towards the end of life!

Mother mercury..he knew he had no time left and wanted peace ...**mother mercury((

He was in so much physical and emotional pain. He spent his entire life in conflict with himself. Now all he wants is that sweet love. The comfort of a mother. He’s going home to sweet mother love.
-
It has pain written all over it and he wants to enjoy peace.

It is another great song by Queen.
Freddie wanted a purpose to keep him active, and song writing was one of his great talents.
No doubt some lyrics indicate his pain, but considering he didn't want a female in his life, takes away from the song being all about him. -
in my point of view, one of the most deep lyrics of queen. mercury probably started to write that song once he realized that he had no chance at all to survive. He knew he was seriously ill.
After years of pain because of aids, he felt like he was tired and he had enough.
"I've walked too long in this lonely lane
I've had enough of this same old game
I'm a man of the world and they say I'm strong
But my heart is heavy and my hope is gone"
I wonder how terrible was that man feeling for writing such a thing. it's not even subjective. More objective than this is impossible: "my heart is heavy and my hope is gone"
