Radiohead: Bodysnatchers Meaning
Song Released: 2007
Bodysnatchers Lyrics
Understand
What it is
I've done wrong
Full of holes
Check for pulse
Blink your eyes
One for yes
Two for no
I have no idea what I am talking about
I am trapped in this body and can't get out
You...
-
To me this song seems to be about doing too much lsd. I’m not sure it’s possible to convey exactly how it lines up without having had some kind of experience with being on too much lsd. The character in the song has had their sense of self partially erased and even basic communication has become impossible, however some sense of self remains which leads to feeling like he’s done something wrong and is enduring some difficulty but doesn’t have enough mental organization to understand why. Any higher order sensory info has been absorbed into everything without distinction “I’ve no idea what you are talking about” only the most basic concepts are somewhat intact “blink once for yes two for no”
The character is on the cusp of fully disappearing and thus is struggling with the existence of his body and his attachment to it while being aware of his true nature which is found in all phenomena, his normal social behaviors are revealed as the lies that they are, even his own facial expressions are revealed to be ultimately false, the newfound expansion of awareness has left him reeling…. And then there’s stuff that seems like he’s talking about really out there stuff and possibly the process of birth and possibly extradimensional (or smth) entities determining his birth “they got a skin and they put me in”
Obviously there are many ways to interpret these lyrics but they really seem to capture feelings associated with an unprepared ego death. -
In the lyrics, he is comparing being trapped in his standard, unfulfilling life to being paralyzed.
I just thought that would seem obvious.
Blink your eyes one for yes, two for no
When one is in full bodied paraysis, the only way to communicate is blinking.
I do not understand what it is Iv done wrong
He doesn't know how he got there and why he deserves being bound, unable to move in his
body/societal cage
Im traaaaaped in this boodyy and can't get ouut..
see it for yourself and read throgh with this interpretation,
(it makes a lot of sense) -
i think its about a time Thom was abducted by aliens. and I'm not saying that as a joke
-
I think this is a shot at bands like Coldplay..."you killed sound...removed backbone...a pale imitation...with the edges sawed off...
