Radiohead: Sit Down, Stand Up Meaning
Sit Down, Stand Up Lyrics
sit down, stand up
walk into the jaws of hell (sit down, stand up)
walk into the jaws of hell (sit down, stand up)
anytime (sit down)
anytime (stand up)
sit down, stand up
sit down, stand up
we can wipe you out anytime...
-
I believe that this song is about war, weapons of mass destruction, bombs, all of that. Both the lyrics and the dynamics of the music show it. It talks about "wiping you out anytime", which is pretty self explanatory. It begins very eery and reserved, as I picture planes hovering above a city planning an attack. The music builds and builds and explodes into chaos; the "raindrops" are the missiles falling from the sky. I would say that the song was written in disgust at how gosh darn powerful we've become, and how much energy we've put into things that can kill so many, so easily.
