Rihanna: Man Down Meaning
Song Released: 2011
Man Down Lyrics
I know it wasn't right
I can't even sleep at night
Can't get it off my mind
I need to get out of sight
Before I end up behind bars
What started out as a simple altercation
Turned into a real sticky...

You got to admit... this song is pretty catchy
But im on both sides Because in the song she was raped and didnt want the rapist to move on and rape another victim.
But on the other hand she killed a human being which is wrong and is faced with the sad consequenses of guilt.
But whatever your opinion is
Just enjoy the song (: -
It is just her way of apologising to u know who for ending his life with the wilder side.

The song and video is amazing!! Music is supposed to take us on a journey. Not all aspects of our lives are happy and light hearted. This song is extremely touching and mashy can relate to, either by actually taking revenge on someone that hurt them or wanted. Hopefully the song will take them on a healing journey!

there's a lot of people who dress a little bit too revealing and flirt with everyone but do they all get raped?
one of the point in the video is to show that she's just a normal girl doing normal things and thinking that nothing bad would happen like most rape victims. -
I thought the song interped her making chris brown life and fame go down for her upliftment in the industry, just because he is a man doesnt mean he isnt competition.... Besides she seems like a girl that would insinuate a fight to get her rocks off....finally publically blowing them up, so much for liking whips and chains.... considering the song she made; but oh no spear the left hook....i love her music indeed..but this is just an opinion. Only she knows what it means, im sure it rattles her brain when she hears the song

First of all no one has the right to say to women who were raped that it was there fault because it wasnt and that you cant always stop it and in the song man down i thinks its talking about how you can lose your life like it might be normal until you get raped and in just a matter of seconds you dont feel safe and you want to feel safe so thats why she shot him so it wont happen again....
-
I interprted it as she was raped and took revenge... I didn't like the song at all ...n I don't think it shudve been air'd... Realy did NOT like it at all
-
The song to me is about rejection and it's pain. when someone says no to you it feels like your the victim in a murder the pain is that much and in this song rihanna is explaining the sometimes the person who shoots the "man down" realises what they have just done and usually done for a petty reason. the fact that she didn't just go for the straight interpretation is a good way for people to get to think.the Chris brown thing is past forgive and forget and if rihanna is in anyway a Christian she wouldn't be making petty revenge songs about it.

Guy rapes her, she gets angry, kills him, then regrets it. Simple as that.
-
I know people may think this is totally wrong but I believe this song is representing her selling her soul to the devil and she is now regretting it. Due to Jay Z, she is the reason why she did that. That's why she apologized to her mom. All of this illuminati stuff is really taking over her and she needs to sit down and realize who is really the lead person of her success and it is for sure def not the devil. But I still like her as an artist and I really wish her the best. Love you Ri Ri.

I think the video is about her not wanting to have sex with a guy and later when she was at a party he was there also and saw it as a opportunity to rape her. so after he raped her, her first intention was to kill him after feeling violated sexually and emotionally.but after she killed him she then regretted it and, realized it wasn't the best thing to do.but honestly I would've killed him too.
-
it is clearly about her being raped and killing her rapeist and i should know cause the same thing happend to me.And i hope he rots in HELL!!!!
-
Personally I do not think this song is about her being raped I think it is her singing about how shes the one shot down. Shot down by the industry. Shes their biggest target and an illuminati slave. In the song she says " why ever did I do it" "what ever happened to me" and at the very end when you see her on the boat in that cave looking place you can clearly hear her say once. Woman down. Theyev got her and shes trapped. She gave up her life for fame and fortune and the song is about that. The video is just to throw you off and think the obvious, when really there is a much deeper meaning. Also in the video notice her show the eye of lucifer many times indicating that she has shot herself down to we know who. Now shes fucked. Also fuck rihanna. The end.

This song is, to put it simply, a modern day tragedy. An obviously happy and carefree girl is raped, and in shock and anger she commits murder. The song is sort of her meltdown as she thinks about what she just did, and her realization that things will NEVER be the same for her again. When I first watched the video and read the lyrics, I was horrified. Not to mention disappointed in Rihanna for marketing a song that is so morbid and dark. Then I realized that music is the perfect way to raise awareness about this type of issue. Rihanna's music world is a safe and virtually harmless way for her to share with the world the things that happen within the hearts and bodies of shattered humans. I'm impressed, Rihanna, that you captured this. To be honest,it may not have been the wisest career move. But it was brave and raw and everything music has always claimed to be. And I truly respect that.
