Rihanna: Man Down Meaning
Song Released: 2011
Man Down Lyrics
I know it wasn't right
I can't even sleep at night
Can't get it off my mind
I need to get out of sight
Before I end up behind bars
What started out as a simple altercation
Turned into a real sticky...

i hate ppl who say that when a woman is raped that she brought it on herself !!! she didn't ASK to be raped and she's allowed to dress like she wants to ! it's HER body ! and she can do whatever she wants with it ! ppl who say otherwise are just trying to find excuses for themselves ...
-
Okay let me see wear to begin maybe i will start with the purple elephant in the room wearing a rainbow colored hat yes that sounds good..............she got raped! (let me be the master of the f-ing obveous here)....in my opinion she shouldn't have shot him that's horrible. What would have been a better way to deal with this problem is to have tied him up and cut of his "junk" and throw it into a garbage disposile just to make sure that it cant be reattached And problem solved he will nvr be able to rape another girl evr again...btw 90% of all rapes start with a hand on the knee take that into consideration...
-
Okay lemme try and cover all of this here
1) yes she was getting raped and not because she was flaunting her self around. A woman can wear whatever she wants and be completely safe, its the man who abuses hers actions that is at fault
2) as at may be wrong to kill, she takes it as revenge for killing her inside, and making her feel violated and unsafe. In my opinion, she had every right to kill him as does any other woman who has been raped.
3) the thing is, after she kills him, she realizes that she shouldn't have, because not lnly is it wrong, because it coukd have been somebody's son, or she'd go to jail
Love the song btw :) -
This is a video of women being abused by a man, firstly no matter how she is dressed. We have babies and old women also being raped and they dont dress provocatively. A woman that can flaunt it should does not mean any man has the right to do as he pleases with her. A woman's NO is her NO!!!! So in the end I feel all rapists should be shot... and like I see it she did a job well done!!!! This Video is excellent for Violence against Women it get's my vote!!!

Here's what I think:
I know the video is about literally killing people, but it can be taken as breaking a heart. The way you feel like you may have pulled the trigger just by something you said. I know the feeling and it's not good. So, yeah it may not be the "right" meaning but I think that music is very interpretive and that's just how I take this song. -
i agree with everyone who said she was raped because if you watch the video at the end he tries to have sex with her and she doesnt want to so she walks out he follows and when he comes back his clothes are torn and everything
-
This song really just states how when you feel when somebody rapes you. She felt hopeless and hurt, so she wanted to kill him.
-
to the person above:
Provocative my ass! Her clothes were decent, provocative is an LBD so tight and low-cut your boobs practically spill out of it and so short when you bend over you flash your pants or basically a bikini when it's winter and your not even on a beach if u want non-decent see what my friends wear on nights out and even that aint that bad! and there is nothing wrong with flirting - thats what you go to clubs for! and nothing rong with her hair!
seriously how old are you, even my mum wouldnt say that about the vid! -
No she wasnt! the vids in jamaica its a hot country u cant wear things like thick jumpers and jeans (i think most ppl going for a night out in a place like that wear bikini tops a shorts/short skirts), and its not like she was werin a top that looked like a strapless bra and a skit so short iv seen bigger belts. ok maby her white outfit at the start was a bit reveling but there was nothing wrong with the dress she was wearin when buying a coconut and in the club she was wearing a decent tank-top and a decent lenght skirt! that guy rapped her cos he was pissed that she didnt want go with him when he asked her earlier, she still shouldnt have shot him but i can see why she would
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
I think that she was very angry at someone and reacted out of anger and regrets her actions.
-
Well I think that she still has thoughts of being beat
Up by chris brown and if anyone has ever been beaten
up know how mad you feel after wards and
Wants revenge she feels like killing him but she know
The consequences if she makes that decision...basically she
Use to love him but when she thinks about how
he beat her she feels angry and hurt and wants to kill him -
The person whose point of view the song is from shot a man because he raped her. She was angry and wanted to feel safe again. It's quite an accurate representation of how people feel after events like that - they want revenge and know it's wrong at the same time.
-
Excuse me? She's an attention hogging slut? No.
This song has been getting a lot of negative press. Things like, 'videos like this should never be made' and 'if Chris Brown wouldn't be able to get away with this, then neither should she.'
Did those people bother to look at the lyrics?
Because if they did, they would know that throughout the song, she admits that she shot someone, but also that she did it out of anger, or before she realized what she was doing, and then seriously regrets it. And the music video shows that she didn't just shoot a man for no reason. No points for the parents this time. -
Breaking up with someone and braking their heart. It's like killing someone.
