Armor and Sword Lyrics

The snakes and arrows a child is heir to
Are enough to leave a thousand cuts
We build our defenses, a place of safety
And leave the darker places unexplored

Everyone bears some mental scars from childhood no matter how well their up bringing. Some use these excuses for their adult actions , wheathr it be anger, infidelity, addictions, ect. Some deal quietly with a shield while others result to the sword. I think this song eludes to an internal fight from each individual to heal the thousand cuts each child is heir to so as to rise in one form or another spiritualy above them. Either way, no one gets to their heaven without a fight.

This song is about how religion can be like armor to people making them better. Or it can be like a sword causing them to harm their fellow man by waging war for the sake of their own beliefs. The message is it's up to you which one you choose to embody.

This is an amazing song off of Snakes and Arrows about Auto-Immune Disorders. Whether it's MS or AIDS. The lyrics "What should have been our armor becomes a sharp and angry sword" mean, that our immune systems attack the wrong things, or they almost turn against us. The line "The snakes and arrows a child is heir to are enough to leave 1000 cuts" means, children can get it from their parents too.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
