Savatage: Devastation Meaning
Devastation Lyrics
Blackness in the night
I roam the world
To hear the cry
Nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide
2000 brings
The untimely end
Of all living things
The Four Horsemen have started their ride
Can you see...
-
I think that is a great interpretation!
My feeling on it is a bit different.. I think this actually corresponds to upcoming / past wars and the futility thereof. 'Waiting for Disaster...', and then,
"We all have our chances of living in peace
Now I'm afraid you're in too deep
What can you do when you're a fool
It all goes this way
You should have listened to what Christ had to say" Interesting because at the time they wrote this, it was just prior to the start of the Persian Gulf War. Subsequent songs were titles like "Of Rage and War", obviously intended to project the full message...they do a good job. I feel like those songs would be quite relavant today, with only MINOR revisions in the country names of those involved! Timeless!! RIP Criss!! -
This song is about the apocalypse which occurs in the year 2000 (the album being released in 1987). 'Devastation' is from a Christian view as referenced in some of the lyrics. There is a mention of the Four Horseman commencing the end of the world. Also, the song says twice that we "should have listened to what Christ had to say". Overall it's straightforward in its lyrical content.
