Song Released: 2007
Fake It Lyrics
The one you sold to fool the world
You lose your self-esteem along the way
Good god, you're coming up with reasons
Good god, you're dragging it out
Good god, it's the changing of the seasons

#1 top rated interpretation:It was actually written about his ex gf (lead singer of evenesence) after she wrote the song about him (call me when your sober) after she dumped him.

2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:Honestly I feel like it's about people are blame everyone else for their problems, let me elaborate a bit.
"Good god you're coming up with reasons... etc" such as when they blame you for all their problems and it's ridiculous at the claims they make.
When he repeats fake it, I think that's literal. People don't want to be around people like that, so "Fake it if you feel like infection" because they practically are(An infection), they take and take like a parasite.
And with a personality like that comes hypocrisy.
"Lies won't hide your flaws" You can catch them doing something red handed and they completely twist it around and make it your fault.
"You lost your self esteem along the way" Well, since people don't want to be around people like this (And they don't seem to know why, either) they are probably lonely and don't have many people to turn to because they scared everyone off with their narcissistic behavior.
That's just my 2cents, ;)Everything's open to interpretation. -
Sounds like he predicted our current administration in the white house. Sold his soul along the way clearly.God help US.
-
I thought it was the theme song for the GOP Republican Party. the GOP has become the party of hypocrites and liars. This song fits them perfectly definitely more fitting then YMCA.
-
Sounds like he's describing a narcissist to me. Only bc I'm married to one (for now), and the lyrics fit perfectly with every aspect of him if that makes sense. If not google narcissist
-
To me, this song screams religion and/or narcissism. It reminds me of my step dad, lol. How others perceive the narcissist, obviously. And the religious aspect goes without saying, we've all dealt with the fake christians. I've read enough to know technically he made this song about Amy Lee but my god Shaun Morgan is fucking amazing and speaks on so many levels.
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
I actually thought it was about being a closeted atheist and having to deal with people that think you’re the devil bc you don’t believe in their god, so instead of arguing you fake it..Anyone?anyone?
-
It just means that if you are going through a bad and shitty life faking it is the best measure.
-
I believe the meaning is literatly: To fake it
Faking it doesn't have to be seen as a negativ thing.
For instance, in school if you feel you're terrible at a subject, just fake it... Tell yourself you're great at it, and slowly your body will react to it, and your Faking will become Habit, and you will start getting the hang of it.
I myself, have never liked going into town and drinking ect. But sometimes, i go to town and i fake having a good time, and fake a personality that usally isen't me.
Now after having done it for years, i can easy go to town with my friends, cause i've "built" a secondary personality, which is the one i'm using while im out with my friends.
Fake it, till you Make it! -
Honestly, I think that he's being completely sincere when he says to fake it. I think he's telling people that exclude themselves from society or feel like they don't fit in to just fake it and join the human race.
-
This is actually really simple:
This song is obviously about someone who fakes it for attention. Because "You lose your self-esteem along the way."
What is the character faking?
They are faking their flaws by lying. "You should know that the lies won't hide your flaws/No sense in hiding all of yours."
Any other details?
They are known as a hypocrite, "Whoa, your such a fucking hypocrite."
They make big deals of small things, as in example using sarcasm, "Good god, it's the changing of the seasons."
This person is comes up with the worst reasons and excuses, "Good god, you're coming up with reasons." And I guess that they have take care of everything so it's finished their way, "Good god, you're dragging it out."
That's what I got out of it. Thanks for reading! -
It is about someone trying to act so real and hard but actually being fake. They are hypocrits.
-
I think it's taking a look at the world and people's interpretation and value of status. Shaun Morgan challanges those perceptions by posing the question "what's so special about them? If you want to be like a celebrity/idol/ect, then be it. If you can't be it, act like it. It's not like anyone will know, and if they do, they likey won't care! - J

it was made to talk about his ex Amy lee after she made the song call me when your sober
-
It means to achieve something u stoop so low dat u even sell ur soul n while doing that u lose ur self esteem too
N while running in dis rat race u try to fake everything so u r being hypocrit . But faking everything n lying won't hide your flaws infact u fake so much that you forget ur self n stop chasing ur own dreams u jst try to b somebody els all the time -
well i think that the ppl are trying to be someone they aren't and be fake to fit in and while being fake ur hypocritical. But that's just another interpretation, but sertanily i don't think its religious.
