Slipknot: The Heretic Anthem Meaning
Song Released: 2001
The Heretic Anthem Lyrics
YEAH
I'm a pop star threat and I'm not dead yet
got a super dread bet with an angel drug head
like a dead beat winner, I wanna be a sinner
an idolized bang for the industry killer
a hideous man that you don't...
-
i think that this song is about Corey. In previous interpretations we have heard that 555 is human, 666 is satan. He is not saying he is satan. he is saying if you're human then I'm a piece of shit.
-
Yeah thats the main point, be yourself and don't be a poser and be different to the others that are faggots. Oh and just to point one thing out to the first person who put the interpretation in, God is 888.
-
The Heretic Anthem is about Corey standing his ground of becoming the exact opposite of what people want him to be, to prove a point. The point of not selling out, not following people, not taking orders from people. With lyrics describing man as 555, Satan as 666, and God as 777, the theme of hate once again prevails. It is also a large 'Fuck You' to the music industry and bands that have sold out. It also states that now, Corey is teaching the young of our race (teenagers) which refers to showing them the truth of life. That it's not all pink and happy, that it can be a brutal and scary place at times.
Here's some detailed info about The Heretic Anthem, Corey said this in Paris on May 29/2001 before Iowa was released.
"A couple of months ago, some evil people, some money hungry, cocksucking, idiot motherfuckers came to us and said: "You know, if you want your next album to be huge, you gotta write a radio friendly fucking song"...Now being that we are Slipknot, we are 9 crazy people from the middle of nowhere, 9 people but do not give one rat fuck about what the fucking music industry fucking thinks, we stood there politely, we processed the information and we said: " Well, thank you Mr. Businessman, but if you'll excuse me...SUCK MY MOTHERFUCKIN' DICK!! And this next song is a result of that fuckin' conversation, if you're 555 I'm 666, THIS SONG IS CALLED HERETIC SONG!!"
-Corey Taylor -
According to Wikipedia, the song is written about record labels who initially showed no interest in signing a recording contract with a band. Proof,
"A couple of months ago, some evil people, some money hungry, cocksucking, idiot motherfuckers came to us and said: "You know, if you want your next album to be huge, you gotta write a radio friendly fucking song"...Now being that we are Slipknot, we are 9 crazy people from the middle of nowhere, 9 people but do not give one rat fuck about what the fucking music industry fucking thinks, we stood there politely, we processed the information and we said: " Well, thank you Mr. Businessman, but if you'll excuse me...SUCK MY MOTHERFUCKIN' DICK!! This song is about being different and denied buy the music industry 666 him speaking metaphorically and has absolutely nothing to do with Satan or god. heretic means a non believer as those people that didnt believe they could make it those who think its about Satan have no clue what their talking about
-
I find this song, like many, can have different interpretations depending on the person listening to it, even if the artist didn't attend it to be interpretited that way. This song relates to me by saying man is 555, and I'm not equal to them, yet I'm still below God, 777, which makes me 666, and because of that people falsely stereotype me as a satanic asshole
-
It's about non-conformity that's it there's no satanic shit or whatever just rebellion and fyi the Hebrew translation of Satan is rebel that's why so many bands us the devil as a symbol BOO YA
-
This song is about rebelion and staying true if I'm wrong at least I have one thing right SLIPKNOT MELTS FACES
-
with all the people saying its corey showing he is of Satan is a LIE! he is simply showing he will not conform with people and how they see things, that he is different and the way to put that strongly accross so people notice is to make it look like he's a satanist. becos cmon guys when you see a satanist in the street or anywhere you stare. its a quick attention grabber. so for anyone who says slipknot is s bunch of satanic loosers look into your won heart and you'll see your god aint so pure.
-
corey once said during a concert that is was about it being a middle finger to record industries and governments.
-
HERE:
9.0 live he says it's against record companies. He says if 555 is artists, like slipknot, 666 is the satanic record companies. -
This song is about how "Slipknot Haters" kept accusing them of being satanists. And they are basically saying, if you're not a satanist then I am!
So yeah they are saying I don't wanna be like you, I wanna be the opposite to you. -
I think Corey's trying to express our intense need for individualism, all we do is follow, in government and the things we are taught in life, its saying he won't conform to every one else's beliefs and he won't give up. Sure 666 is the symbol of the devil,in modern translation but look up the origins it was also 616 and 665, and yes it has been related to nero but that is undetermined for sure. I think it means he's pissed at the current state of things, and people need to question whether or not what they think is right.
-
I think this guy is on to something. Almost like the three Wise men regret what Christianity has become. Like an apology for stating the whole thing. "They just judge each other and try to impress." I think is a critique of the church. I believe that James loves Jesus, but hated what has happened to the "religion" of Christianity. And so do I.
