Slipknot: The Heretic Anthem Meaning
Song Released: 2001
The Heretic Anthem Lyrics
YEAH
I'm a pop star threat and I'm not dead yet
got a super dread bet with an angel drug head
like a dead beat winner, I wanna be a sinner
an idolized bang for the industry killer
a hideous man that you don't...
-
Corey is getting at the music industry for writing Slipknot of, for when he says,"I'm a pop star threat," it's him getting back at the music industry for promoting shitty pop bands and writing Slipknot off.
Also when he says,"Everybody's so completely sure of what we are" he's showing how everyone thinks they know who Slipknot are, and that they are actually a very misunderstood band. When he says,"But face to face, they haven't got a thing to say" its showing how people will bitch and badmouth Slipknot, but when they come face to face, they're fucking pussies. Also referring to when in 9.0 he calls them all (pussy)ass(bitch) motherfuckers -
The Heretic Anthem is about Corey standing his ground of becoming the exact opposite of what people want him to be, to prove a point. The point of not selling out, not following people, not taking orders from people. With lyrics describing man as 555, Satan as 666, and God as 777, the theme of hate once again prevails. It is also a large 'Fuck You' to the music industry and bands that have sold out. It also states that now, Corey is teaching the young of our race (teenagers) which refers to showing them the truth of life. That it's not all pink and happy, that it can be a brutal and scary place at times.
-
You kids got it all wrong...
555 is whats used in movies in phone numbers, because they can't use real numbers.
so they put 555 as the first 3 digits excluding the area code.
ever noticed that before?
if your fake(555) then I'm 666(pissed off).
it basically is a middle finger to fake people.
saying he's gonna kick your ass if your fake.
in other words.
the music industries ass. -
My Interpretation Is that this song has two meanings, one being of the anger showed to Fred durst Who made an insult to Slipknot, Also the song is about Holy wood 555 being hol On a Cell phone Meaning that People who follow holywood are the true heretics and slipknot is a misunderstood opinion.
-
Um I'm sticking with the music industry theory. This might be a stretch but 555 is the area code the film industry uses for all phone numbers in a movie or television show. since the music industry and film industry are basically one and the same it seems like a reference to them. 666 is the "mark of the beast" in Revelation but was in actuality considered to be man's number. stupid Evangelical interpretations have made it into Satan's number. the whole thing about putting the beast's number on people in Revelation is about declaring man above or equal to God.
-
Every one that thinks this is relating to satin is a flippin tard. Its all about the music ind. every one that likes slipknot should know that.

He doesn't know what he's talking about. The people who say the song is about satan are stupid retards. The song is about how corey denied the music industry when they asked him to make a radio friendly song.
-
"I want to take you back seven years to the eden festival at the gameworks right down here. There was about a hundred fucking people there... It was the first time we really ever played for anyone outside of where we lived, and you guys went off harder with a hundred people than I've ever seen a lot of fucking people go off before. And we scared the fuck out of so many fucking record label assholes that night. So because of fucking those people like that, those fucking plastic, record-label, pussy-ass bitch motherfuckers, we wrote this next fucking song. You know it, join me, because if you 555, then i'm..."

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

Yeah, so far none of you sound right to me. No offense. But the song is totally about how corey is a complete individual, and you could never become him at all. The 555 represents people, 666 satan, and 777 (even though it's never mentioned in the song) is god. I got a majority of my translation directly from authorized slipknot fansites, but I added my own ideas to it.

Well, when Slipknot was performing in Brasil he told us that it was about the agents that wouldnt sign the band and never gave them the shot. They put them down and told them they would never make it. That they never had what it took to make it in the business
