Slipknot: Opium of the People Meaning
Opium of the People Lyrics
Watch all the idiots fall on me
Running out of ways to get outta the way
Take another shot just to stay the same
But I need some balance - Back it off
Fill your lungs 'til it makes you cough
Tell me...

I really tried to get a proper interpretation for this song via research, so bare with me.
One of the verses in this song made reference to "Judgement day" aka Day of Judgement, Doomsday, however you want to refer to it. ( In case whoever is reading this doesn't really know what Judgement day is, here you go;(New Testament) day at the end of time following Armageddon when God will decree the fates of all individual humans according to the good and evil of their earthly lives.) So this could either mean this song has something to do with religion, or Doomsday? I got a little bit of a post apocalyptic vibe in this song, from what I stated above. Its almost like in the beginning of the song everyone is in an apocalypse or a day like Doomsday. From doing a bit of research it kind of seems like the title of the song, has to do with religion. Maybe this song has to do with the urgency some people will bring through religion.Like how some christian's will try to make you panic and strike fear into you with the whole "If you don't repent for your sin's and accept Jesus Christ as you're lord and savior, you're going to hell" type shit. I'm not sure if this makes any sense or not but with the speed of the song itself and Corey's slightly panicked sounding voice in some parts of the song, its like someone's urgent to find a lead to something, or get out of wherever the hell they are at. This probably made absolutely no fucking sense so if you are confused please don't take this interpretation as a meaning. Someone may give a better meaning? Also, no I'm not one of those fucking christian's who bring religion into everything. I only did it because I found a few references to religion..
