Soundgarden: Zero Chance Meaning
Zero Chance Lyrics
I stumbled on and all the world fell down
And all the sky went silent
Cracked like glass and slowly
Tumbled to the ground
They say if you look hard
You'll find your way back home
Born without a friend
And bound to die...
-
I think it's just about being broken. About trying to find your way in this world. The battle within dealing with depression. "I think I know the answer. I stumbled on and all the world fell down" meaning coming to terms with that truth inside and stumbling on your own realization it is that ugly truth that causes your world to come down that we are alone even though in the sadness we feel alone the reality is we are truly alone. "On the plus and minus zero chance of ever turning this around" the addition of trying to be whole of becoming one in a relationship with others and the subtraction of them no longer in connection be it family friends ect. That feeling that you are alone again and you are back in this place again and it seems that there is no chance of turning it around because in all reality we are alone hence "they say if you look hard you will find your way back home. Born without a friend and born to die alone" like the saying home is what you make it and it is within. You came in to this world born alone and when you die you die alone no one goes with you. "Why doesn't anyone believe in loneliness stand up and everyone will see your wholiness" the double standards of life we should be ok with it because of the way we truly come in and out of this world. But not everyone if anyone is everyone needs to feel like they belong like they need to be whole but when we stand up in the fake it till you make it world the cover up is quite transparent and everyone can see the holes that are inside that we feel incomplete. It's a tragic but beautiful song with such deep meaning I love the double meanings to his lyrics such a great writer and a great voice he will be missed

I think this song is a realization of the end of a relationship. The sudden clarity of the end. Resolved to being alone, forfeiting the fight to stay together and understanding that we come into this world by ourselves and we leave it that way. Only wishing that being alone was more desirable. It's beautiful. It's sad. It's beautiful.
