Stone Temple Pilots: Sex Type Thing Meaning
Song Released: 1992
Sex Type Thing Lyrics
I said I wanna get next to you
I said I gonna get close to you
You wouldnt want me have to hurt you too, hurt you too?
I aint, I aint, I aint
A buyin into your apathy
Im gonna learn ya my philosophy
You wanna know about...
-
Holy crap, man...I read the lyrics and it screams rape....
-
I still don't understand how people can think this song was wrote by Scott to "show his perverted side". Scott was impersonating a rapist and speaking from that perspective. Not to mention, he was raped in his youth. He's even said on TV the meaning, and in a live show, he's not a rapist.
-
Jeez people. Clearly its about rape. "You wouldnt want me to have to hurt you to" is not saying also but in order to force you to have sex. We can do it the easy way or the hard way (forces her)
"Ill give you something you wont forget"
Clearly shell never forget being raped but in the rapist's mind itll be the best sex shes ever had.
"Apathy" is odd to me because Id think shed be very against his motives rather than indifferent but perhaps shes indifferent about life. But yes rape is an atrocity and he will show her one.
"worn that dress"
Often men criticize women for dressing sexy but its never an invitation for rape.
"I know you want whats on my mind"
Clear satire, She doesnt at all but he thinks No means yes. Some guys wont stop when they have it in their minds they are going to have sex.
"Here I come"
In both ways, here I come after you, its starting and probably during sex, here I cum inside you. -
I think the song is definitely about rape. I don't think that the singer from STP is a rapist or advocates it. He is just telling a story perhaps from a rapists point of view and certainly the band's performance of it and the lyrics capture how atrocious it is. Knowing what the song is about though, makes me not want to listen to it.
-
I think it about to people wanting to have sex but scared that they will get hurt but are still willing to take the risk.
-
FOr those out there, I'm a huge fan of Scott Weiland and STP will always be my favorite band.
Scott stated at a concert, after being accused by the media of advocating rape, that the song was about the oppression women have in society. Look it up. "This for all the assholes that think I'm a rapist," Scott says to the crowd during a show -
I like where you're going with this, BUT... I think you might be a tad bit off. Now he does say "I know you want what's on my mind..." Obviously, if I were a rapist, (which I'm not!!), I'd WANT the victim to believe with all her mind that she wanted it. When he says "You want me to hurt you too?" I think he's asking you want me to take it, AND have to hurt you doing it? Just my opinion...
-
I agree this song is about rape, but then again maybe not.
'You wouldnt want me have to hurt you too, hurt you too?' meaning he has obviously hurt other girls.
'you shouldn't have worn that dress.'
the girl being referred to in this song obviously wore something basically asking for it.
on the contrary to the rape..
'I know you want whats on my mind
I know you like whats on my mind
I know it eats you up inside'
there chorus says the girls wants it, she likes the idea of having sex, and is ready to go. -
It's about being raped "I said ya shouldn't have worn that dress" and well if you listen you will get it.
