System of a Down: Lonely Day Meaning
Song Released: 2006
Lonely Day Lyrics
And its mine
The most loneliest day of my life
Such a lonely day
Should be banned
It's a day that I can't stand
The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life
Such a lonely day
Shouldn't...

The real truth of this song is about Daron's brother who died in a fire. That's why in the music video everything is on fire.
-
I think it's about contemplating suicide. when you are suicidal, you feel hopeless, and like no one understands you, hence all the "lonely" stuff. and then at the end, "a day i'm glad i survived" is when the main character chooses not to kill themselves, and is glad they didn't
-
i was told that this song was about someone in the band not feeling famous enough. It made sense to me because in the music video random things were on fire and no one was noticing such an important thing. That's the way the member felt about themselves
It seems kind of self centered and is probably wrong. -
I believe that "and if you go, I want to go with you. and if you die I want to die with you. Take your hand and walk away." must be taken in full to understand it (many of you have been breaking it down). The singer is willing to go and do anything with this person, but(assuming their holding hands, as its a sign of friendship) the other is going to let go and leave. meaning "I will do anything for you and can't live without you, but you go live how you want, I'll stay here alone." and he's glad he survived this person leaving him.
As for his brother dying this makes much sense while relating to many it also directly relates to his relationship with his dying brother. Daron wants to do anything with/for his brother, including dye with/for him, but his brother is living his own life, and is breaking away (taking his hand away and walking away) from Daron. He is then left all alone (the most loneliest day of his life, the day his brother left him) but he's glad he survived so he can do the same and lead his own life. -
although i have done any research and have just been looking at others and listening to the song, it seems that "and if you die, i want to die with you" is more that he wants to die in the same way with him, not as suicide after the fact. Also, "its a day i'm glad i survived" is that he's glad he made it through this day, the very worst, after he was left by the one he didn't want to live without but is now forced to.
-
In my point of view, this great song is about when we someone you love, who may be a member of our family or somebody else, and suddenly that person is gone or just go away from us when we merely counted on that loved person.and when the song says "and if you go,i'm gonna go with you, and if you die, I'm gonna go with you" it's a demonstration of love" 'cos when we love someone we think that we can't live without him/her,even though in reality we didn't commit a suicide,it's just the language of love.
Finally, when the song says "it's a day that i'm glad i survived, which means-after all,we are alive & we are glad for resisting such a hard prove in such a lonely day...! -
This Song Is About Daron Missing His Cousin. His Cousin Died In A Fire and The Song Is Dedicated To Him. I Dont Know If You Noticed But In The Music Video For Lonely Day, There Is Fire In Places
-
okay most of these interpretations are incorrect but some are close. The song is about Darron losing his brother in a fire and he feels lonely because they were very close. If you see the video everything is on fire because he died in a fire. He says it's a day he's glad he survived because it's hard to live without his brother
-
I heard Daron's brother died in a fire.
So I think it's about that brother, how much Daron missed him. And it's also why you see fires everywhere in the clip.
I'm not sure it's correct, but it's possible. Anyway, another explanation is completely logical and out there, in the lyrics; it's about someone you really miss. -
I think that this song is about mediocrity. That everyone lives their life and they could be hating despising what they do, yet everyone goes on. The shot of the old man made that apparent. I think that every cubicle worker and accountant is at the end of the day happy they didn't kill themselves.

This is about Daron's brother dying in a fire.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

i think the song is about letting go of someone he loves for the good of himself. it a lonly day because he has to let go of this person. when he says (if you go i wana go with you if you die i wana die with you) hes saying he doesn't wana let go ove this person and when he says (take your hand and walk away) hes finaly letin go of this person with a hevy heart because that person is bad for him
-
I believe that this song is about System of a Down's gutarist's (Daron Malakian's) brother dying in a fire. In the music video fires are displayed prominently, and lyrics such as "and if you die i want to die with you" suggest his deep depression. Also He is the only singer featured in the song and the only person who shows any emotion in the video suggesting that the other band member can't relate.
