System of a Down: Lonely Day Meaning

Album cover for Lonely Day album cover

Song Released: 2006

Lonely Day Lyrics

Such a lonely day
And its mine
The most loneliest day of my life

Such a lonely day
Should be banned
It's a day that I can't stand

The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life

Such a lonely day
Shouldn't...

Ths song is about someone losing someone else to suicide-probably someone that was always there s noone ever thougt that they'd go. This song also has certain bits when the singer goes through bouts of despear and considers suicide an option to escape. Then at the end of such a episode he is relieved.

I think it's a song about the(one?)day in your life where you feel like no one understands you and you are alone.I think we can all relate to this song.

I think that the song is because of the fact that maybe one of the band members (probably Daron Malakian or Serj Tankian) lost a loved one in the war or the 9-11. And it's lonely because of the fact that they now won't be able to see them anymore, and maybe that was their only real reason for living.

That's just my theory because of the fact that soad usually sings about politics and wars...

ok its not "a day ill never miss"
    its "a day I won't miss"
like he won't miss the day once its over

I think this song may be about his birthday-"Such a lonely day, and it's mine." He says it should be banned and shouldn't exist because a lot of people dread their birthdays coming around or sometimes wish they were dead. But, he is glad he survived, since it is better to be alive than dead.

I believe this songs is an experience we all go through while we are at war with iraq. It is a lonely day for us because it seems like the war is never going to end.

I think this song is about the first day after an apocalypse. I myself think that SoaD is a very openminded band and believe that there will be an apocalypse in the year 2012.

    "Such a lonely day
    Shouldn't exist
    It's a day that I'll never miss"

There's no other possible day that can have a description like this, it's in a world after nuclear wars, lots of civilwars, people who kill to survive.. It's dark and there's barely anyone alive, someone who might still be alive could be a survivor which was in your party. which comes in the part

"And if you go, I wanna go with you
And if you die, I wanna die with you "
Because honestly, you don't want to be alone in such times.
And now for the part which made me sure of it
    "Such a lonely day
    And its mine
    It's a day that I'm glad I survived"

I don't know if you should be glad, but you would have been in risk of being killed. Either by a Disaster or an enemy..

People are beginning to become condemned in their own little world. They blame all but themselves for their problems so they don't see the world "burning way" even if its right in front of their eyes.

This song is actually about Daron being in a fight with his current girlfriend and his ex. They were both really mad at him, so he felt like he was alone that day, therefore: the name. He said this himself in an interview on www.soadfans.com
