The Black Keys: Everlasting Light Meaning
Everlasting Light Lyrics
The sun when there is none
I'm a shepherd for you
And I'll guide you through
Let me be your evelasting light
Let me be your everlasting light

I think it is about a young man, who was artistic, talented, inteliegent and everything good, had the intention of taking his life because of his tortured mind ( as most geniuses have). And he wanted to leave behind something for the absolute most important, person who stuck with him his whole life, his soulmate on another level, the ONLY person he felt comfortable with, his confidante, along with many other things .......his single Mom. Who was single her whole life basically went through things and the young man went through them with her. It was just the 2 of them, his whole life as his father was in and out, and only bad when in. The 2 of them against the world, best friends, Mum and son.
He wanted to leave behind lyrics that he thought might comfort her after he completed his suicide. The words in the song “in me you can confide, when no ones by your side”, he knew she would be alone after he left and he wanted her to know that he really was never going to leave her. That he would be with her always, only now in spirit, but he wanted his Mum, the one who screwed up a lot, the one who was always there for him, that he would always be there for her, just in a different form. -
I kinda view this song as God guiding us through bad times rather than it being about love. But I'm probably wrong...
