The Killers: Andy, You're A Star Meaning
Andy, You're A Star Lyrics
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
On the field I remember you were incredible
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
On the mats with the boys, you think you're all alone
With the pain that you drain from...

This is a weired thought but I think that none of the killers were or are gay or bi, I think that maybe a song was wrote depicting his crush (slight obsession) with a high school girl only it was possibly thought to be too cliche and so the change was made. I don't have any evidence of this as I haven't looked into this but it's just a different view you could discuss since it hasn't been mentioned yet
-
Basically, there's no way to know if the narrator is a boy or a girl, but he or she is enamored by Andy. Personally, I don't think Andy is a huge, well-known sports star in school, just a star to the narrator who watches him play. Andy goes out with some girl, he feels pained and alone when he's with his friends because of love or lack thereof, and the narrator wants to make sure Andy doesn't love this girl. The narrator is super too shy to make a move; s/he is constantly telling him/herself "hey, shut up, hey, shut up." The song is about obsession and the way an infatuation rules your every thought until your un-reality is all your life consists of.
-
I tend to think that that Narrator is jealous of Andy. He looks up to him because he's some kind of sports star and get's chicks. I also sense a bit of hate in the song, that's why it brings me to expect jealousy.
-
This song is about stalking.
-
'But the killers are from England and they don't play football, they play things like soccer and rugby.'
F(cking Americans. I think you will find that they do play football... -
Why do people assume that the singer is just singing and not acting as well? psh!
I kinda thought it was quite simple and about him stalking Andy... -
I think that this song is about being gay. the person who is telling the story has feelings for Andy. When the song says "there's a girl in your car, plromise me she's not your world" its meaning that the Andy has something going on with another character, and the narrorator wants to be with Andy.
-
1. The Killers are NOT FROM ENGLAND. Try Las Vegas.
2. This song has nothing to do with the other Killers songs Believe me Natalie or Jenny was a Friend of mine, so obviously, Andy You're a Star has nothing to do with Jenny or Natalie.
3. Brandon Flowers has hinted all types of things in interviews. When asked about the song he said one thing for sure: this song if for your interpretation.
4. I went to a Killers concert the past summer and distinctly remember Brandon Flowers saying "this song if for a special friend of ours."
5. "On the field..." = football or possibly soccer or lacrosse.
5.Brandon Flowers is, unforunately, married. So he is not gay (now) but might have had some bi-sexual tendencies in highschool. Or, he is simply telling a story, that he has not lived through.
My opinion? Just a simple crush. Leave it at that. -
First- according to Kinsley's studies, most people are not exclusively straight or gay. It's a continuous spectrum, and everyone falls in a different place on it. Therefore, even a "straight" person might find themselves having a bit of a crush on or obsession with some person of the same gender, but it does not nessesarily mean they are homosexual. So it's quite possible Brandon Flowers could've had a slight crush on this guy, but that itself does not decide his sexual orientation.
However you look at it (stalking, gay attraction, random crush, girl jealousy, jealousy because of his athletic talent, or all of the above), this song is a bit creepy. I may just think this because of the whole Brit accent thing, which makes it rather creepy-sounding to begin with for me... but also because this person obviously is obsessed with this Andy guy (for one reason or another) to the point where it sounds a bit unhealthy.
Now, he could be saying he knows Andy has immense athletic potential, but he might be willing to throw it all away for this girl and that makes the narrator of this song worried cause he's like Andy's #1 fan (at least in his own mind) or friend, or ex-friend, or whatever.
However, the whole gay angle has quite a case too, if you want to believe that, because of where he says "on the mats with the boys you thought you were alone" or something like that, and maybe this guy also liked Andy and so he went out for wrestling just to get the chance to get close to him, and he got all friendly with him or at least attempted to but Andy wasn't interested in any kind of relationship, and besides he already has a girlfriend, so now this guy's jealous and upset.
Anyway, there's enough evidence to support quite a few arguements about this song, so it's up to the listener to decide. -
The songs about him being gay. He wants this andy guy so bad. He tells him he thinks he's aweomse but "Andy" Doesnt want to hear it. Hence "hey shut up Hey Shut up yeah". It hurts him to see him with a girl also, "Promise me she's not your world". It all fits together.
-
I'm going to assume the stalker is a guy that hates andy and is after the girl.
A bit away from the whole gay thing (sorry, I know we all love to point the gay finger like the red scare of 2006) but I get a feeling the whole thing is someone who hates andy for being a star- that stereotypical kid in the movies that goes crazy and starts screaming "Mr. All American!"
He hates Andy because he got the girl he wanted. "Tell me she's not you're world."
Perhaps he got picked on and told "hey, shut up" or something.
I just picture "Andy" tied up in a chair as some crazy kid gives him a lecture before shooting him or something.
