The Killers - Joy Ride Meaning
Joy Ride Lyrics
Over the Sierra
Stranded on the heat wave
Burning with desire
She was on the sidewalk
Looking for a nightlife
Talked about the real thing
And drove into the fire
Headlights on the highway
The desert wind is...
-
It's about a prostitute. I have lost my cash and need a pick me up.

In my opinion, i think this song is set in the desert, like many of the other killers songs, one of which is dust land fairytale, which links many of their songs together. I belive he takes her to somewhere in Las Vegas, because it quotes, "his chips are low", maby saying that he hasn't got much, but he's betting on a lot. "his highs are low", could be him saying that he is quite down, and something, like a "joy ride", would pick his up, bringing him from low to high. "A glorious existance, A simple celebration ,A place you've never been before" from this quote he is sharing his disappointment, that this woman will not share all these experiences with him. He is also sadend by the fact, that she doesn't love him, for instance in the lyrics, it says, "'Why won't you kiss me?", this is because she doesn't love him, and therefore won't. I also belive that she belives he can't win this game of poker, and looses all faith in him, and she will not find what she wants in him.
