The Killers: My List Meaning
My List Lyrics
Let you show me how I see
And when you come back in from nowhere
Do you ever think of me?
Your heart is not able
Let me show you how much I care
I need those eyes to tide me over
I’ll take your picture when I go
It...
-
Seeing as the only other one on here at the moment doesn't even make sense, I will do a full breakdown of the song lyrics.
"Let me wrap my arms around you,
Let me show you how I see."
This is the opening two lines of the song, which clearly set the song up to be a song of romance. As a reletavely newly wedded man, it is quite clear that Brandon is singing this about his wife, Tana. He is saying how he wants to protect her, and help her along in life.
"And when you come back in from nowhere,
Do you ever think of me?"
This is a simple worry of his, saying that he is hoping that she thinks of him a lot still, despite them now being married to each other.
"Your heart is not able,
Let me show you how much I care."
The song rapidly goes from being romance to a message: you need somebody to show you that you are loved. With the latest news that Tana is suffering badly from complex PTSD, this makes sense. Having been abused in her childhood, it would be natural for her to worry that she isn't loved as much as she really needs to be.
"I need those eyes to tide me over,
I'll take your picture when I go."
This is now saying that even when he sin't by her side, he will be thinking of her, and looking at the pictures to remember her.
"It gives me strength and gives me courage,
But I'll never let you know."
This is his little secret, that he is totally in love with her through her eyes. It sounds sappy, but I wouldn't put it past Brandon. Come on, this is, like, the millionth song that he has written for her! And that's only the ones that he's told us are about her (I, being a hopeless romantic who won't admit it, like to think that there are many more that were written for her that Brandon likes to make us think aren't about her, but something else altogether)! So yeah. Brandon's inner hopeless romantic.
*Authour's note - if you want the full lowdown on some of the more metaphorical and hidden stuff, then look up my interpretation for Battle Born. It's a bit out of this world, but hey. I've also got a few on Wattpad as well, so I'm LOLogramgirl there too, if you wanna check them out.*
"I got nothing on you baby,
But I always said I'd try."
This is a strengthening message, saying that he may be very hot and as sassy af, but he jas nothing on her at all. It's just encouraging.
"Let me show you how much I care."
This is once again, saying that he is going to show her how much he cares about her.
"'Cause sometimes it gets hard
And don't you know..."
I wouldn't be inclined to say that it was for Tana was it not for these two lines. It is an obvious referal to Tana's PTSD. I won't turn this into a biography, but that's it.
"Don't give the ghost up,
Just clench your fist."
This is more inspirstional stuff for her, telling her not to give up on herself and life. Baseline, that's what it is.
"You should have known by now,
You were on my list."
The list is, as far as I can see, a list of people that he loves. I can't see any other option, eithr hat or it is people that he wants to protect. Either way...
On the last line, where he says wrong instead of on my list, I actually have no idea. I would say it's a clasp at her PTSD, but I couldn't say for sure.
"When your heart is not able,
And your prayers,
They aren't fables."
This is once again saying that he is going to guide her through her darkest hour, and help her when she is stuck... (for those interested, by stuck, I mean stuck in the bloody rut from Wonderful Wonderful. So, don't say it, there was an entire song written about it. And I love that song soooooo much).
The rest is a repeat of other lyrics, which is why it's so short.
Figured it out yet? Hopefully you have. If you want to see some of my other lyrical interpretation, look up my lyrical interpretations on Wattpad (I am LOLogramgirl there too, I said before, but I will say it again). You can comment there which ones you want me to break down as well.
So, in summary:
1) This song was written for Tana
2) This is a really cute song.
3) Brandon Flowers is a HOPELESS ROMANTIC!
#hopelessromanticblamgame
4) It's a good song.
