The Rolling Stones: The Last Time Meaning
Song Released: 1965
The Last Time Lyrics
-
This came right after their recording of "It's All Over Now", a song written by Bobby Womack and recorded by the Valentinos, which Bobby was not too happy about.
What he once said in an interview was that he gave them a piece of his mind about their recording his music, because he didn't like other people's versions of his songs cutting into his record sales . He has since relented and says he's thankful they recorded it, because the Stones version, and Rod Stewart's, and Ry Cooder's and many others, bring in royalty checks he still receives for the writing credits.
Anyway, when I listen to this, it sounds to me like the Stones used that idea for the theme and music of the song, but also were greatly influenced by the chorus of the Staples Singers song, which is also called "The Last time"; the chorus of which is identical.
Check it out.
