Thrice: A Torch To End All Torches Meaning
A Torch To End All Torches Lyrics

I believe that in the first two verses of this song, the picture portrayed of utter hopelessness. Nothing the singer tries to accomplish succeeds. "I circle by habit,
can’t find my orbit to save my life" and "Disgruntled architect building a palace can’t make it perfect to save my life." The song also talks about the desire to end it all and give up. But in the last verse, in his utter hopelessness, the singer finds that God draws near to him. I believe that this song speaks of salvation, of what happens when a person sees himself the way that God sees him and turns his life over to Him.

I believe this song may have something to do with how God never appears on earth because he has lost interest in humankind. The line "Long Ago I was derailed, long ago the mission failed" may point to how God was dissapointed in mankind (thay 'failed). The line "But in my darkest hour, the brightest light draws near, by His grace I am sustained" may mean that although God has moved on to bigger and better things, mankind still has a hope of acheiving something close to perfection and can find eternal peace in heaven.
