Thrice: See You In The Shallows Meaning
See You In The Shallows Lyrics
the rocks are leaping for the sky,
they're starving for the air,
for a bone to break, a dream to smash apart,
but I don't care.
It looks deep enough from here, I'm diving

If your parents ever asked you "If you friends all jumped off a cliff, would you jump with them?" then you should already know what this song is about. I'll use drugs as an example.
I hear the waves crash far below,
the rocks are leaping for the sky,
they're starving for the air,
for a bone to break, a dream to smash apart,
but I don't care.
This first verse indicates that he's heard the warnings, he's seen the dangers, but, as it says, he doesn't care.
It looks deep enough from here, I'm diving
He doesn't see any harm, he's going to go for it.
This cliff has been well worn by ignorance.
Many other people have done the same thing, because they didn't know any better (or at least chose to ignore the warnings).
It looks deep enough from here, I'm diving
they float face down they all look so content.
He sees his friends on drugs and they all look like they're fine, he sees no danger.
I don't know why I'm even here.
Guess I'm afraid to be alone.
This is an indication that he has no other reason to do what he's doing other than because he doesn't want to feel left out.
And down below I see my crew they look okay
that can't be blood the water here
is far too blue
From where he stands, he thinks his friends are fine and there is no danger.
and gravity
seems far away
Once he jumps, he just keeps going faster and he can't turn back.
but I can hear her call my name
it's so comforting to know I'll never have to think again
He is still being warned of the dangers even as his life falls out of control, but with the "help" of the drugs, he doesn't have to care anymore.
The rest of the song is just a repeat of the verse.
It doesn't have to be about drugs, it can apply to any peer pressure situation. It can even literally refer to suicide. Any way you look at it, it's a great song.
