its def a song about a relationship that has taken a turn for the worse. its actually pretty mean when you think of the old insult: "ive got a match, your face and my ass" which is awfully similar to "your embrace and my collapse", which i think must be a euphamism for the same over all point. plus i cant help but catch the pun with the use of the word match. he says "the SMELL of love is everywhere". john is obviously got a bad percpective on love, cus whats a good way to get rid of a bad smell? light a match!
