Tokio Hotel: On the Edge Meaning
On the Edge Lyrics
She is still there but no one cares
They sang her Happy Birthday yesterday without her
Do you want to see yourself flying through the night?
This gift is what you need
You're gonna be alright
Eyes close and...

I think the line "the scars will stay forever" for me anyway mean that even in self harm recovery the scars will always there-both the physical and emotional scars. you just have to learn to live with them. self harm brings nothing but more pain and adds shame and even more self hatred on top of everything else. and now i have to live with ugly arms forever because i made a bad choice and became addicted to it. but if writing this makes one person think twice about going down this horrible road then it will be worth it. talk to someone instead. please.

It makes me think about a girl who cutts.
-
I think this song is about a girl cutting. I interpret being "On The Egde" as doing something as senseless as cutting (or drug use) but when they say "scars will stay forever" and "her arms so sore" it makes me think of cutting
-
They once explained the meaning of the German version. They said it's about a girl who uses drugs and can't stop.
This is what I think they mean with the first part of every chorus:
'The first time on the edge': she uses drugs for the first time.
'Closer to the edge': it's becoming more dangerous every time she uses it, but she can't stop. So she is closer to the edge, closer to the ending.
'Fallen to the edge': it went wrong.
In German, the bridge says 'after every last time, she wants more and more'. So she wants to stop, but she can't.
That's why 'her last wish stays unsaid'. She died, wasn't able to stop using drugs, which was her wish.
-
The drug addiction interperetation does fit- almost. The song is definitely about a girl addicted to cutting, using all of the little clues you guys used for the drug addiction. The gift, and her arms being sore. The German title must also be thought about, though. It is Stich ins Glück, which means Stab into Happiness.
-
When I first heard this song, I thought it was about a girl who was molested by a trusted friend or family member, so she turns to cutting and alcohol because no one would help or believe her, and in the end she commits suicide.
It never occured to me that it was about drug addiction. But that also makes sense. -
I also think it's about drugs and sucide but in his middle verse he said someone hand is touching her and everytime it hurts so it. Also could be about rape or molestation
-
Well this is the English version, and that does sound good, but the German translation literally translates "Cut to Happiness." Just sayin.
-
It could very well be a song about drug addiction. But if you think about it, it could also be cutting.
-
The song is about a girl who is addicted to drugs. When it says something about "this gift" they're talking about drugs and she wants more. And when she's "on the edge" shes getting the effect of the drugs. And when she's "not coming back" I think she eventually dies from the drugs. She's "on the edge", "closer to the edge" and "falling from the edge". And she don't care what anyone thinks anymore. And at the end the lyrics say "The sky is casting over her last wish stays unsaid." saying that she probably died without any last words.
-
I think this song is about a drug addiction. Many people think it's about a suicide, because of the statement "falling from the edge" but I think that that statement symbolizes more of a loss of control than actually falling.
here are a couple hints:
"Do you want to see yourself flying through the night?
This gift is what you need
You're gonna be alright
Eyes close and fall
She cannot sleep 'cause time stands still
Someone's hand is touching her, she has no will
Each time when it hurts, she just feels so alone
She doesn't care at all
Her memories are long gone
Eyes close and fall
She shuts the door
She longs for more and more
And more
She shuts the door
Everyone is watching
Her arms are so sore
But she doesn't care anymore
And falling from the edge
The sky is casting over
Her last wish stays unsaid"
I think this song shows a progression of her addiction, for example, in the beginning it shows her getting a "gift" and then she likes it, wants more, and as the song continues, she gets worse, until the end "falling from the edge" when she loses total control and "her last wish stays unsaid" she might have died, but I think those last two lines just show how there is no turning back for her.
