Twenty One Pilots: Lane Boy Meaning
Song Released: 2015
Lane Boy Lyrics
But we go where we want to
They think this thing is a highway, highway,
But will they be alive tomorrow?
They think this thing is a highway
If it was our way
We'd have a tempo change every...

this song is about breaking boundaries. “they say stay in your lane boy” “they think this thing is a highway” meaning people think their songs are supposed to perfect and they’re not supposed to break music boundaries.
-
They say stay in your lane boy lane boy
But we go where we want to
They think this thing is a highway highway
Will they be alive tomorrow? -
It's about people doing what they want without following rule 'they think this is a highway', meaning this is post to be this perfect road and do what your told to, not tell lies. Or do what your supposed to do 'we go where we want to' say go where you want to be what you want, don't listen to others that you don't want to listen to take a risk do big things before times up meaning before you die:thats what I think this song means but people might see it different then I do but like the song kitchen sink.

"they think this thing is a highway/ But will they be alive tomorrow?" someone down below said it means you never know when you'll die, so take a risk anyway. I kinda see that, but also: the highway represents a bunch of cars doing the exact same thing and taking the exact same road, right? So here comes the question: will they be alive tomorrow? As in, inside, not literally. Since no one is doing anything special and unusual to express themselves. They are just living without actually experiencing.
So, yeah, the main idea of the song is obvious. Dont limit yourself by the idea of normality our society has, not worth it -
i think the song is about how they attempt to defy the rules and be a bit of a rebel, hence the lyrics "we go where we want to".
"dont trust a perfect person and dont trust a song thats flawless" means that if it seems perfect its most likely too good to be true and to just take your own rout in life. carve your own road on the journey that is life.
but thats just my view on the song, i may be wrong about a thing or two, but thats just the way i see it. -
The meaning of this song can be interpreted a few different ways, but the one that I truly believe is that he is being told to not break boundaries, do what he is told and go where he is told. His response to this is saying "But will they be alive tomorrow" That means You never know when your going to die, so why not take a risk and go outside your lane?
-
I believe this song has a meaning about breaking the hierarchy of music by a rebellious song as a sword to penetrate the wall of insecurity that he sings about.
-
i think lane boy is about rebellion and not caring what others say. And its about people doing what they want without following rules or regulations.
-
I think Lane boy is about not caring what other people think and just being the way you want to. hence the "they say stay in your lane boy, but we go where we want to" People (society) want everything to be normal and go the right way, but the "we go where we want to" is basically saying you dont have to be normal to be on the right track, im not sure what it actually means but thats a theory :) Correct me if im wrong
