Peoples biggest fear is death and a lot of stress and issues come from dealing with one's decline & the inevitable end of life.
Making him wonder, since his biggest fear and stressor is feeling alone and being abandoned, hurt and his trust broken. Wasting time and years on those he put trust in only to find out it was not a real friendship. He's less afraid of facing death than of having no real friends in life. Which is making him feel broken, misunderstood and worthless. -
