   His cousin Brad Renfro (actor) passed away earlier that year. They were close. Brad acted in their original version of wasteland. It’s a tribute song to him.

   It's a girlfriend who was on drugs. Named Kathy my cousin.he named an album after her called killing all that holds you .First word of all the words spell her name .I went to school with both . She passed in a car wreck several years ago. Jesse was never into drugs but she was. They were together around 5 years or so. Maybe he will tell the public one day about her.Rest in peace Kathy drinnen

   he was in love with a girl but it didnt work out (the rivers in your eyes couldnt change my mind) dosent mean some died means she was crying duh and seeing her like that wont change how he feels about walking away. cause it wouldnt work out thats why he also say (may we meet again in a diferent life) cause then maybe things would be different

   Obviously this song is about saying goodbye to someone. Possibly someone with a stronger love for drugs than for you. That seems to be a common topic for this group.

   I think this song could have many meanings, like most of their songs. all their songs use a lot of vague imagery, and are very beautifully written.
   
   What i think about this is that the speaker needs to move on with his life, and in life he cannot be with the person he is walking away from, it could be a good friend, or a girlfriend. "May we meet again in another life", this is probably the saddest line in the song, the idea that the two will never meet again in this life.
   
   the other meaning i hear is about a death of a family or friend. "The rivers in your eyes couldnt change my mind", after death one needs to move on to the next life, and nothing can keep them here in this life. "May we meet again in another life", thats a dead giveaway for this interpretation, one day the two will meet again but not in this life.
