Adele: Rolling in the Deep Meaning
Song Released: 2010
Rolling in the Deep Lyrics
Reaching a fever pitch and it's bringing me out of the dark
Finally, I can see you crystal clear.
Go ahead and sell me out and I'll lay your shit bare.
See how I leave, with every piece of you
Don't...

To anonymous who posted last march 3 @ 1623,
I truly believe on your own interpretation of the song that i saw myself into it. A woman of sorrow and anger because of a failed love. Adele's lyrics are really strong!!! -
Urban Dictionary says that rolling in the deep "means Oral Sex , usually including lots of deep throating and tongue rolling"
-
add to my last post about rolling in the deep and an ocean of love. I think the character in the dark is the torment of her heart. Its a literal picture of what she is feeling as she sifts through what is left of the destruction.
-
i think the drugs could resemble the 'ecstacy' feeling of being in love... they had ecstacy and now its gone maybe?
-
You had my heart inside of your hand
And you 'played it to the beat'
I guess it is the artist way of giving a visual image of the influence the guy had on her feelings. -
This song is about sorrow of love and anger about realizing that it's over and realizing this lover was playing with your emotions "played me to the beat".. but rejoicing in the fact that now he is suffering in the depths of himelf "rolling in the deep" "you're gonna wish you never had met me" because he will be haunted by that decision and for that he did to you while you are moving on "see how I'll leave with every piece of you". Now if only the two of you could have been on the same page all along "we could have had it all".
At least, that's how I hear it. -
Played it to te beat:
If you think about it , it can be interpretated a number of ways.
Beat could mean: The heart beat, so "you played it to the beat" suggests that the whole time they were together (while her heat was beating for him) he was playing her heart.
Another way it could be interpreted is that he was 'beating her heart, hurting it, slowly killing it" so "you played it to the beat" could be also looked upon as "you 'used' my heart until it physically hurt"
Hope this has helped! -
Can someone explain to me what Adele means by:
You had my heart inside of your hand
And you 'played it to the beat'
It's this part I can't work out 'played it to the beat'
Thanks all!

Adele's song refers to her anger at the person her betrayed her.
"You are going to wish you never met me" and "Don't underestimate the things that I will do" suggests that she is looking for revenge against this person.
In this instance it can only be assumed that she pictured her and this other, together forever by quoting "we could have it all"
She explains throughout the song how the betrayal of this person has severely hurt her by using a physical connotation in an emotional way "The scars of your love..."
The person she is talking about seems to be depicted as a very controlling and manipulating character that again shouldn’t "underestimate the things that I will do"
ADELE uses strong words and hidden meanings to try and get her message across. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

'Rolling in the deep' is a phrase that ADELE uses to show her anger with the guy this is aimed at. It is about how her lover fell out of love with her and she is angry at him for playing with her heart - hence, 'You had my heart in the palm of your hands, but you played it to the beat'
So, the meaning of the song is her trying to get back at her ex for falling out of love with her, but pretending he still loved her and playing with her heart. -
one side of the relationship is finally seen the other for what they really are. Being angered this side will on longer stand for it. The glasses of water represent this clearity. Also these glasses are pounding with the beat of the song such as ones heart would.
"we could have had it all" is represented by the cups being smashed. These cup were once beautiful.
The being in the dust is representation of the other side of the relationship giving into drugs, in this case being cocain

Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" is about a woman who is thinking of her love and relationship with a man who has control of her heart but took advantage of her--"You had my heart inside your hand/but you played it to the beat". Though she emerges from "the dark" and is angry and able to see the man for what he truly is, she thinks of how they "could have had it all". I really cannot figure out what the phrase "rolling in the deep" refers to though. Pain? Sorrow? Any thoughts?
