AFI: Morningstar Meaning
Morningstar Lyrics
Who will be the first to begin their fall?
Or will we become one?
Am I the star beneath the stairs?
Am I a ghost upon the stage?
Am I your anything?
I saw a star beneath...
-
This song is about becoming a rock star or fizzling out and becoming a one hit wonder if "anything "

I don't think this song is about the devil, it's about being forgotten. They are making a comparison to Lucifer's fall from grace (lucifer is the morning star or the angel of light, not satan or 'the devil').
The song is specifically, I think, about the band wondering if their best years are behind them and if their fans will forget them. It's the 'Ghost Upon the Stage' line referencing 'Days of the Pheonix' that leads me to this conclusion. Days of the Pheonix is about the Pheonix Theater a venue AFI played at when they were starting out. -
Although Morningstar can be another word for Satan, I don't think that's what the song is about I think it's about not being good enough for the person you love.

Well the devil idea is beautiful, it can be split off into so many other meanings, satan meant a lot to god, he was the bringer of light, as one can mean a lot to a love, and god expelled satan into the abyss, as it would feel to be cast out by a love, and "Am I your anything" is to ask "Did I ever mean anything to you, do you still feel for me?", and the answer is likely yes, love never fades unfortunately, much like a star, after a supernove, a white dwarf, a pain or ache still lives...

I believe it's about asking someone you like or are in love with if you are good enough for them. If you hold any significance. Then again it can be about Lucifer falling into hell.
