   I think this song is about someone in love with someone else and wondering why a person they barely know is so missable and they long for them so much.

   I believe this song is generally saying that we are so small and constantly bicker about the little things. We all have big egos but don't realize the more important things. Things to actually care about.

   I think he is having a conversation with himself. The person he was and the person he is are having a conversation. He talks about how the person he was washed away. At least that's how I took it.

   I think this song is simply about someone leaving him.
   
   "under the summer rain you turned away"
   and how he misses her so much,and is miserable and wants her back, but can't do anything.
   And that's pretty much my interpretation.
