THISKIDSNOTALRIGHT Lyrics
[Beep]
Troubles coming for the free men.
We shake them, shake them with the free hand.
So stand tall, shout out with me.
Do your dirty work without me.
Say you're best when no one can see.
Stand up,...

I think that the beauty of music and lyrics are that it resonates with everyone at some time about things happening around the world or with us personally. It is the formula for a “hit” song! AWOLNATION, to me, are nothing short of genius and the lyrics speak for many of us that can’t necessarily find the “right” words to express our feelings. I realize that I am late finding these guys but better late than never! If anyone is reading this, (which I highly doubt because I, myself, went down a rabbit hole to get here) get yourself acquainted with AWOLNATION. In my opinion, probably some of the most moving, (and I’m not talking bowels) heavy rocking’, beautifully upbeat, vocally spectacular music ever made. Can’t wait to find out more about this band! Maybe not the forum for these comments but it does say “Your Interpretation” at the top of the page and I agree with the guy that said this has a “60’s protest vibe”.

Aaron is thinking about how he has ADD and everyone was saying he was "not alright". Aaron is portraying his emotions about his ADD. I use it because I am in California and I want to move to Ohio. Nobody wants to move from the 'golden state' to some random place in the middle east called Ohio. I'm the only one to wear shorts in 45 degree weather when everyone here is wearing winter jackets. I don't like California and am a Republican. No one here thinks that anybody else's opinion is right. They immediately think that it is wrong. They talk weird using 'like', 'bruh' and 'hella' in everything sentence. Everything is so d*mn expensive here as well and our politicians are horrible. Nobody else thinks that. I do. I think that people will say that I'm not alright.
-
It's normal to be not alright. In fact it takes a bit of "not alright" to even come close to winning a fight against that which is just disturbing in our society.

he is basically saying that as a child people around him were most likely saying "this kids not alright" because of his ADD . The song pretty much sums up to his ADD and how he was always being himself and people judged him for that or like when it says "you can follow them to hell" meaning that everyone else can be normal and act like everyone to fit in and all just end up in the same place anyways so its pointless to be "normal" .
-
Hi, first of all, the real meaning is not because of politics. Its about his ADD desease, in this case, it talks about the way it was wen he was a child, how "the free man" (he) plays, how other chilldren see him, and how he has to face that he is different to all others, and "you can follow them to hell" referes to the way he has to integrate with them, and how he fails, or create misunderstunding situations that make people say "this kid´s not allright". He sings it in a powerfull way, it combines the pain he suffered those days, with the idea that he was doing nothing wrong, just being his self.I thin he created this song as a way of resilience.

Given the name of the band AWOLNATION ...AWOL (Absent WithOut Leave) NATION speaks to the fact that America is in distress and her protectors, the Citizens, are not stepping up to defend her core benefit, a Republic, as the founding fathers intended. The lyrics mention a FREE MAN. A free man is only possible under a Republic...NOT a Democracy [which Americans have been tricked into believing America is by our government while they continue to strip us of our rights! Look into the legal definitions of what a people, a man, citizen are then look into what Maritime and Admiralty law's are (it governs commerce) then look up common law...then you realize you will never pay a traffic ticket again since the traffic code [laws] only pertain to commercial vehicles...sour youtube for videos about why you do not need a drivers lic. you will be stunned at how much you have been misled by our own government in order to usurp power and trick you into paying for "privileges" that are actually your god given birth rights {Unalienable Rights}!
A citizen is a slave as defined under the 14th amendment...take back your Sovereignty and exercise your Rights or loose them...thats what this songs about. -
As I said earlier not the right lyrics but I took the time to type it out so here ya go:
I still don't know what I'm doing
F*&K
Trouble's comin' for the free man
We shake from shaking with the free hand
So stand tall
Shout out
With me
Do your dirty work without me
Say you're best when no one can see
Stand up
Catch fire
With me
This kid's, this kid's, this kid's, this kid's,
This kid's, this kid's, this kid's, this kid's,
AAAAHH
This kid's not alright
This kid's not alright
This kid's not alright
But, this kid's not alright
I've been sleepin' with these
I've been sleepin' with these thoughts man
I've been contemplatin' singin' them
So, stand up
Catch fire
With me
This kid's, this kid's, this kid's, this kid's
You can follow them to hell
This kid's not alright
This kid's not alright
This kid's not alright
But, this kid's not alright
I'm scared I may be right
You can follow them to hell
You can follow them to hell
You can follow them to hell
You can follow them to hell
You can follow them to hell
This kid's not alright
You can follow them to hell
This kid's not alright
You can follow them to hell
This kid's not alright
You can follow them to hell
But, this kid's not alright -
It's about the NWO !
-
I think these interpretations aren't very helpful when they come from anonymous nobody's (no offense to commenters) but I was looking for a solid definition not another interpretation.
-
This song has a "60's" protest vibe to it. Young kids fed up with the establishment. The writer is wrestling with his thoughts to speak out about the injustices in the world. He's trying to unite the youth to stand up and join him in protest. Angst turning to action.
-
I think that this song is basicly saying 'I've had enough!' kind of message. maybe he has a few troubles that are stressing him out. or maybe its about breaking from the routine.
