Billy Talent: Rusted from the Rain Meaning
Song Released: 2009
Rusted from the Rain Lyrics
There's nothing left to salvage, no one left to blame,
Among the broken mirrors, I don't look the same,
I'm rusted from the rain,
I'm rusted from the rain
Disect me till my blood runs...

1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:I believe this song is about a abusive relationship, but this time around
its the girlfriend abusing the boyfriend, possibly physically but defiantly
verbally and emotionally.
"I stumble through the wreckage rusted from the rain
There's nothin' left to salvage, no one left to blame
Among the broken mirrors I don't look the same
I'm rusted from the rain, I'm rusted from the rain"
His girlfriend has broken his self-esteem and self-image
due to constant verbal attacks(worthless, idiot, pathetic)
Her verbal and mental jabs to him are endless like rain and are
wearing him down, like a self fulfilling prophecy. He begins to believe
that he is as she says; worthless. Because of this he's "rusted from the rain"
"Dissect me till my blood runs down into the drain
My bitter heart is pumpin' oil into my veins
I'm nothin' but a tin man, don't feel any pain
I don't feel any pain, I don't feel any pain
I'm rusted from the rain"
She's nitpicking at what he does and how he is. somewhat like "guilt tripping" him
and making it seem like its his fault. Her abuse has left him so emotionally
numb and heartless he doesn't believe there's a end in sight so hes built this
outer shell to protect himself from the pain.
"Go on crush me like a flower rusted from the rain
Come on strip me of my power, beat me with your chains
And if I'm the king of cowards you're the queen of pain
I'm rusted from the rain, I'm rusted from the rain"
At this point he doesn't really care what she does or say
he wont put up a fight anymore. He wont fight her
therefore in his eyes and hers he's a coward for backing down and just taking it and mocking his masculinity.
"You hung me like a picture, now I'm just a frame
I used to be your lap dog, now I'm just a stray
Shackled in the graveyard left here to decay
Left here to decay, left here to decay
I'm rusted from the rain"
Shes taken everything from him. What he was, and now hes empty with nothing left.
He used to be very loyal and loving to her but now that there love has soured
and shes abused him hes straying away from her, trying to get out but "shackled"
to a dying relationship and relentless abuser and hes rotting deep down from it.
"Oh, the sun will shine again, I'm rusted from the rain
I'm rusted from the rain
Oh, the sun will shine again, I'm rusted from the rain"
Deep down inside hes still hanging onto to hope that he'll be able to leave her
and find a someone who will truly love him even though hes been so badly scared by
this relationship.
Anyway, that's my interpretation but all in all its up to the listeners and the lyricist
to know what this songs means to them. -
I thought it was something from the wizard of of oz, tin man rusted from the rain. The king of cowards reference is a wizard of oz reference
-
The message from the text is possibly:
Human gets older. So he can't keep looking young for ever and the older he gets the number of things will get higher which he isn't able to do anymore (for example: running fast) because of the decrepitude.
Besides he will get nearer to the death.
Perhaps the fact that he's rusted by the rain is a sign for becoming older.
In the song he tells that he doesn't look like he was before and that he's a old thing who used to be important for other (his friends, family..etc.).
Now he's old, "useless" and forgotten by them. He'll be dead soon. I think he says he isn't afraid of the coming death.
I don't guarantee that this is right! ;D -
The statement of this song is:
Dont judge people by first impressions and their appearence. When you know the musicvideo, its pretty clear. The old bum, collecting all kinds of machine/metal stuff, and in the end you see that he built a carussel for children, and that he s actually not that bad as you might have thought.
(sorry for the bad english) -
Personally, I think the point of this song is that someone was in a relationship, they broke up and now he has nothing. I'm not sure that's just what I always thought, so it probably isn't right.
