Line and Sinker Lyrics

What you see is what you get (don't you know)
Fishing for the answer with a line and sinker
Look at me and don't forget (don't you know)
Hard to get a grip with all these broken fingers
Hard to get a grip with all these broken...

When someone think they're they're better than you and they make fun of you, make you feel low. This song is about being strong and not caring about that

We don't always see the bright side
    We all need ego suicide

He is talking about ego not conscience people. Its saying people see negatives in others first. Often because your ego makes you think your better than people and you can judge them. We all need to kill our ego off so we see others as equals.

This is about him being able to just say "fuck off" when life gets hard,
And by da way, it is
    You hung my HEAD today

Just so we know, it's "you hung my ID today" not "you hung my head"

What you see is what you get (don't you know)
Fishing for the answer with a line and sinker
Look at me and don't forget (don't you know)
-I think that means that he knows who he is and you will
assume you do by looking at him and judgeing him

Hard to get a grip with all these broken fingers
-simply means the concept is hard to grasp

    Today I don't feel pretty
And I'm tired of trying to fit right in
Don't think that you're so great
    Cause being great must suck
-This is saying that he feels terrible as it is and he knows you think nothing of him but your no superior

We don't always see the bright side
    We all need ego suicide
-This means that the negatives stand out most to him and he does think of terrible things.

    You hung my head today
But I have licked my wounds and carried on
-this means that he is used to being put down but he still moves on

this is all I got for now

I had a good idea of what this song was about since the first time I heard it, but the use of the word id always bugged the crap out of me because I didn't know what it meant, after a while I finally figured out what it is. I doubt I'm the only one who thought this so I'm just going to put it up here.

Id is supposed to be a persons inner most desires, without any restraints or reason whatsoever, the ego is what's supposed to regulate it, so the ego stops you from doing things that would be either morally wrong or just look bad in your society and the like. So I think when they say "we all need ego suicide", it means we just need to start doing what we want and ignoring what's acceptable to other people.

Other than that the rest of it's rather simple, pretty much what everyone else said, it's about being sick of trying to fit in to society, and being ignored and treated like crap by all the people that DO "fit in" and just not doing it anymore.

To me this song about how people pissed you off and they think their better then you. But in the end all you gotta do is brush them off and give them the finger.
