Blue October: Bleed Out Meaning
Bleed Out Lyrics
Feel you sigh
A desperate aching wonder
Will you ever, ever let me off my knees
Wide awake
Like a dream
As simple as a secret
Being told, told to everyone but me
Will I
Bleed out
I gave it all
But you can't stop...
-
I listened intently as Justin explained at a live show that he wrote this song as his interpretation of what his girl must've felt like as she struggled through his addiction with him.... his understanding of how he had hurt her, over and over again..
I totally relate, as both a recovering alcoholic and a recovering codependent.... I feel it from both sides. Wanting so badly to stop drinking and torturing those who loved me by making them watch me slowly kill myself, but not being able to stop. Wanting so badly to stop caring for the alcoholic who was torturing me endlessly... to stop giving him "one more chance"... to stop giving a shit if he drank himself to death... but not being able to stay away.. to stop enabling him.... the brutal cycle of the insanity of it all... bleeding out... dying a slow and painful death. -
Struggling with alcohol addiction.
No matter what he does it always leads back to the bottle.
He hates it but it still runs his life.
“Another day come undone”
I keep trying to heal your pain ...
In return you cut me over and over again...
It's a never ending battle...
“Waking up... falling down”
Another day failing... as much as you want to quit, it won’t let you....
Hear my plea... you pray and pray but it’s hooks are in so deep you feel like you’re going to bleed out..
For what it’s worth that’s my interpretation -
My interpretation
The songs lyrics represent the words/emotions / turmoil/remorse and heartache of a penitent wife/girlfriend after she has cheated on her husband/boyfriend.
"Will you ever let me off my knees" = on her knees begging for foriveness
"Another day come on done, I keep trying to heal your pain, in return you cut me over and over" = he is having a relapse of negative emotions(insecurity, doubt, etc.
She tries to give him confirmation of her love, but while doing so, he berates her and reminds her of what she has done to him.
"I finally feel like I am supposed to be, oh dont you take this moment from me" = she is having a moment of psychological stability, a fleeting moment of living without guilt.... but she fears he will come and remind her of what she has done, taking that shimmer of happiness away from her...
Cheating is the ultimate betrayal, it burns to the core and can take years to recover from.
