Blue October: Kangaroo Cry Meaning
Kangaroo Cry Lyrics
Here it is the day I have to go
Just sit beside me
I can't let this show
How sick I feel to leave you so alone
God I'm terrified
We've lost respect for decency
When one can turn our world into an ant pile
We run...

#1 top rated interpretation:In the concert that I attended tonight, Justin stated that he wrote the song in response to watching soldiers wishing their families farewell in an airport while the band was traveling on tour.
He said that it was so moving that he was compelled to write something about it. -
The title refers to the cry of a baby kangaroo. If the baby becomes separated from its mother, the mother can recognize its individual cry. The song seems to be told from the perspective of a daughter whose father is being deployed for war. The baby is being separated from the parent.
-
Again, I quote myself: The question still begs: what is a kangaroo cry?
I question not the meaning of the song or lyrics, but the term « kangaroo cry. » Apparently, no on has any concept of this term with a defitive meaning. I'm trying to understand this linguistically. -
The ones who stood alone I believe are the men and woman who were sent to war with no families to cry for them no families to say good bye to.
Tell me you've used all precautions known
( He is asking if the government has taken the time to really think about whether or not it was necessary to send our men and women to war, like are you sure you have considered all options before sending them away into a terrifying situation in a foreign country)
And I'll stand beside the ones who stood alone.
(If it is necessary to send all of them if you have thought about all options then I will not only go into war I will go in with others that do not have families to say goodbye to I will go and stand up for the people of the country who are struggling since they could not fight the war themselves I will go fight for them)
Just my take... -
The only part I'm still trying to discern is:
"You choose to break our families
Tell me you've used all precautions known
And I'll stand beside the ones who stood alone..."
I get the 1st 2 lines of that but I can't figure out the 3rd. Who are "the ones who stood alone"? -
What I get from it about soldiers in general and their families and 9/11 and the war:
And you choose to break our families
Tell me you've used all precautions known
And I'll stand beside the ones who stood alone
How long will we have to sing until you finally bring our sons, our daughters home?
We'll let the prayers start healing, what time's been stealing
also consider this:
We've lost respect for decency
When one can turn our world into an ant pile
We run circles, no direction do I see
The dust has blinded you, the dust has blinded me
as in 9/11 the towers also have you ever seen a kangaroo cry? Google it it's the saddest animal pictures I've ever seen...
Stop the war bring our boys and girls home and 9/11 in a nutshell -
Am tony from Kenya i think i will love this song to death. I think a kangaroo has the saddest look eva thats why they called it kangaroo cry.
-
The question still begs: what is a kangaroo cry? Must we go to Australia to find the answer?
-
So what is a "Kangaroo Cry" then?
These are all good interpretations of the song except the definition of a Kangaroo Cry. I was taken aback as well, thinking it was a particular behavior whilst weeping for loved ones. Like hopping up & down crying your eyes out.
Anyway, great song, very touching. -
The first time i heard this song it was on NCIS. The episode made me cry, because of the song. I looked it up afterwords and the video i found made me cry even more. Not only me, but my whole family. It is such a moving, emotional song that just touches our hearts. For the men and women out there, even now serving their country, this song is a tribute for them all.
-
I definitely think it's about soldiers leaving how the government don't think before deploying the soldiers. I think it's the most moving song I've ever heard. It makes me cry every time I listen to it; and the images of soldiers leaving comes into my mind.
-
I think the song is about 9-11 and a soldier leaving his wife to go fight. "The dust (of the Twin Towers) has blinded you. The dust has blinded me." One (BIN Laden) has turned our world into an ant pile".
-
WHat I get from this is that its a soldier saying goodbye to his family, as we see from the beginning of the song. And then we progress and hear sort of the families point of view asking when is the war going to stop, when will they finally be home for good. And praying for there loved ones to come home safe, telling them to hang on.
-
I think it's about a Marine the day he leaves he wife and head out to be in the Navy. I don't think anyone out there has a different opinion.
