Yes this song is definitely about the "wanting" to kill himself but he also knew that wasn't the way to go out. So he wrote his feelings rather than doing the deed. It was also for his mother to hear as she was the only shinning light in his teenage world. This song is for all ages. I came to Blue October's music late in life and this song among others have helped understand my feelings and grow rather than commit myself to death and what that would mean for my children and grand children.

This song is about being alone. Being so alone and sad you consider killing yourself. Justin is saying he wanted someone to hold him, to be there for him but it never happened. His arms are open for someone to hold him but no ones looking. At the beginning of the song he has some hope but by the middle he is waiting to kill himself. By the end of the song he has already killed himself.
