Boys Like Girls: On Top Of The World Meaning
On Top Of The World Lyrics
And I am still here waiting
To see you again
Be with you my friend
When the moon is gone forever
I hope you're up there somewhere
I'll see you again
Be with you my friend
'Cause all the roads they lead to...
-
It's for his mother who died of breast cancer when he was 16. And he's saying that someday he will be with her and misses her so much. :]

This song was written mostly by vocalist Martin Johnson. It is about how his mother died when he was just sixteen years old. It's about how he'll see her someday in heaven, and he also misses and loves her. :)

Well, it is actually a song about a band member losing his mom to cancer, but my interpretation is a forbidden love song.
"Look up, the stars are fading
And I am still here waiting
To see you again
Be with you my friend"
-- It says that that every thing is going wrong since she left him --
"When the moon is gone forever
I hope you're up there somewhere
I'll see you again
Be with you my friend"
-- Same here, everything is downhill --
"'Cause all the roads they lead to where you are
And all the streetlights shine like they were stars
That's where you are"
-- He feels they are meant to be, but it just doesn't happen --
"Let's spend tonight on top of the world
And we can do anything,
We can be anything
I'll meet you tonight on top of the world"
-- Pretty much what it says --
"As real as it seems,
You're only in my dreams"
-- That he knows it wont happen in real life --

Singer/Guitarist Martin Johnson told euphoniaonline.net about this song: "Even though this song subconsciously comes off as a love song (possibly because it was in its first generation), it is about losing my mother to cancer when I was 16, and giving her a promise to find her again somehow."
