Carrie Underwood: Blown Away Meaning
Song Released: 2012
Blown Away Lyrics
Those storm clouds gather in her eyes
Her daddy was a mean old mister
Mama was an angel in the ground
The weatherman called for a twister
She prayed blow it down
There's not enough rain in Oklahoma
To...
-
This song is about a girl. Her father is a drunker and abused her and her mother. So when the weather man says there is a twister she hides in the seller hoping the twister kills her father and takes the house away with the bad sins. Hope that help! :-)

At first glance this song seemed simple, enjoyable and easy to understand.
Off-hand I thought it was about a girl who lived with her alchoholic / possibly abusive father. When the storm came and she was unable to wake him up, she took shelter and almost felt as if she was getting revenge on him for the life she had lived because of him.
After listening to the lyrics a few more times I started to feel a little uncomfortable.
1.) How did her mother die?
2.) Was her father greiving over his wifes death?
3.) In the video you can obviously tell that her father is angry and upset but what we can't determine is the cause of those feelings. At one point he spits in the mirror, does this symbolize his disgust with himself and how he is?
4.) Does the girl in the video understand any of this or does she just think of herself? I ask because in the video the father doesnt seem "to bad" yet she ignores him when he asks her a polite question. After which he grabs her arms when she goes to get up and tells her "I am still your father". -
Well her dad is abusive and an alchoholic as u may tell. Her mother is dead and im guessing its got something to do with the dad. So the storm comes and she leaves him on the couch and locks herself in the cellar. Hope that helped!

Look closely...He is standing at her door trying to break in at one point! He not only a disgusting violent drunk, he had been sexually abusing her since her mother died. He deserved what he got!
-
The song is abou a girl who has a drunken abusive father who killed her mother ,one night a storm comes so she tries to save herself leaving said father for dead and hoping that the storm will blow away the house and the memories of the events that took place there.
-
I think like most of you it means that she grew up with an abusive father. I also think like some of you that she is older not a young girl anymore because of the "there's not enough wind in Oklahoma to rip the nails out if the past". This points to her thinking back to a hard childhood. Also if you watch the music video to this song it helps to understand it better, I got most of this from the song, but the music video made it more clear what was going on.
-
Just to clarify... She doesn't want the dad dead, if you watch the video she's trying to wake him up.
-
This is about a girl that lives with her father that is cruel, abusive and a alchoholic. When she hears news about a twister, she runs home trying to save her father who is passed out on the couch, but fails. So she knows he's a goner(but still tried to save him) so she goes and locks herself in the family cellar regretting what she did by disobeying her dad and fighting with him, and at the end she runs away to find a new home.........and be free! But still upset about her dad :(
-
Everyone forgets that she tries to get him up but he wont wake.......watch the music video

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I can definitely see the verbally, maybe physically, abusive and alcoholic father.
However, I do believe the "tornado" can be one of two things. It could be an actual tornado OR it could be her way of getting away and removing herself from her father. Everything "blown away" could be all of the horrible memories that she wants to leave behind. So the tornado is just her way of getting away from the abuse. -
The tornado is symbolic of her dad when he gets drunk. When he starts drinking that is her "storm warning" to go down in the celler and get away from her father. Her father obviously killed the mother who did nothing wrong and her father being blown away is her just getting out of the situation and bettering herself. She has "washed away all the tear soaked whiskey memories."
-
Yes...I agree with what most people say. Ger father was abusive & deffinitly alcoholice, but I think the song has a deeper meaning. I was thinking maybe her grandfather or one of her friends father's were abusive?
-
this young girls mom died and now she is is living with Her drunk and abusive . The weather says there will be twister so she goes and hides in a celler and hopes the storm will blow everything away all her memories of when her father would abuse her when he was drunk.
-
I think this song is about a teen girl who is now living with her abusive father because he might have killed her mother but I don't know. So the young girl hears on the news a twister is coming and because of all those horrible things her father has done she leaves him there while she locks herself in the family cellar, hoping her father goes with the twister! Hope I helped
