Chevelle: Still Running Meaning
Still Running Lyrics
Say it say it
Along you support
Then embrace another reason to see
Success we unfold
Clutching firm betting
he panics for sure
Say it say it that it's done
I want it, want it need it done
The lie, want to know
Has it met,...
-
From the EP version:
"Say it, Say it that its done.
I want, want it, need it done.
The lie, want to know, has it met
Expectations so far
Now run, make amends, feeling torn
Boy you better be sure
Still running, Never waking up, say it."
I am speculating like everyone but to me this is clearly the mistake he made with the first record label that sponsored their first album and they are still running from that mistake until their contract is up or they go nuclear and break the contract. Knowing the bands history makes me biased to this idea but I find most bands art is build around their pain and the contract they made with that record company has been choking them since their youth.
This on the other hand is from the official version and I honestly don't know how to interpret this besides literally.
"Disclaimer: We should all have hope and look towards the day where a man realizes the sounds exiting his mouth are mostly complaints that a change occurs!
Selfishly walking through killing the angles
Picking and choosing to screw all of them one by one!
So run, make amends, feeling torn
Boy you better be sure! Sure!"
Now it sounds like he's running from the act of maliciously killing heaven. There could be metaphorical meanings hidden in there somewhere. It could be something simple like war and politics. idk, I don't have the energy to decipher it and I just enjoy the song as is honestly. I wanted to throw my 2 cents in. -
What I get from the song is that bush is sending soldiers in a war. Think he's speaking from both sides. Like the part "betting he panics for sure." And as for the Bush side "the lie has it met its expectations so far." What our guys go thru after war "still running never waking up." " now run make amens, feeling torn. Boy you better be sure." What our government does to our troops when they are ready to come back. Like if there is a light switch that you can just hit and forget all you have done out there. I have three brothers that were in Iraq when this song came out. Every time I hear this song kinda puts me in the mind set that they were in.

It is simple rhetoric. Why do people say one and do another. There is also a reference to the way politics and political correctness works. You avoid saying the wrong things, or even deeper, you are avoiding the truth (the elephant in the room). This is collective between everybody. We never like to speak of the greatest problems in our modern world, only things that would be convenient for us. He depicts society as too fraudulent when it comes to empathy or expression. As a result, there is no change to society; people will always be greedy and selfish. That is why in the beginning he wants to see people's request for change or the silent truth to be spoken and actually see the world react and take action!!!!
