Coldplay: Moving to Mars Meaning
Song Released: 2011
Moving to Mars Lyrics
Somewhere up above the stars
The wreckage of a universe floats past
Somewhere up above my heart
A tiny little seed is sown,
A government is overthrown,
Who knows when we'll be coming home at last
And I heard it on the...

to me, its about a boy and a girl, in a romantic relationship. but one moves far away, maybe overseas, and they cannot contact each other, but they still want to make it work. until finally, they see each others again

When I listen to the lyrics and to the song, I get the feeling it's about the today's society. About the politics and about the today's government, and how wrong it is. Today, every leading political view is about money. Money and things that doesn't really matter. No one thinks about the planet, about the nature, about the people and about the human emotions. And that's why we are moving to Mars. Cause if the world was to unite as one country today with all the political thinking and the governments we have today, then we wouldn't have made it. We would have to move from this planet, cause we would only destroy it. Instead of coming together, we would only divide again and we would again be split.
War would continue, focus on money would continue and all the important things of this world like humanity, people, the nature, the planet and emotions would be eventually lost.
And because of all the war, because of the lack of focus on the planet, lack of focus of thinking about the nature and all beautiful the world has to offer, we would have to move from this planet. We would destroy it and therefore we would have to move to Mars. We would be moving to Mars.
When I listen to this song, I always recognise some Pink Floyd in it, and if you listen to their songs, they are a lot about how war is destroying for us and so much more. They have so much music about the the metallic emptiness of politics, machines and lack of emotions. And I think Coldplay kept that in mind when they made this song.
Coldplay shows in this song what happens when we forget about all the beautiful things that exists in this world, which they are always so good at showing exists in many of their songs.
Coldplay loves showing all the colourful, happy, good and artistic things that exist in this world and they show the consequence of not thinking about all that in Moving to Mars. They aren't saying that is what is going to happen, but they are saying it as a symbol to what happens.
8 to 9, 9 to 10, Moving to Mars.
