Coldplay: Yellow Meaning
Song Released: 2000
Yellow Lyrics
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, they were all yellow.
I came along,
I wrote a song for you,
And all the things you do,
And it was called yellow.
So then I took my turn,
Oh what a thing to have...
-
I think this song is about someone who is just so, perfect - "Look at the stars, Look how they shine for you/And everything you do", yet they may be selfish, etc - but the way they look makes it seem brilliant - "Oh yeah, your skin and bones, Turn into something beautiful", but you love them unconditionally, and you'd do anything for them - "For you I'd bleed myself dry"
-
Originally I thought he was singing to an anorexic girl too, but in the end the strength of love in this song cuts my heart open to the point that when I listen to this song I am practically in pain, that's how much I love it. My favourite line is "for you i'd bleed myself dry". That's the most beautiful thing you could ever say to a person.
-
It is about an anorexic girl because when you are anorexic your skin turns yellow and it says "your skin and bones" I'm pretty sure
-
I LOVE this song. It talks about life/death, you know how people get Yellow when they die *sad*. This guy has real feelings for this girl, and then she dies and he almost wants to follow her. Actually, stars are yellow sometimes, whoever commented on that. :)

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
Wow, whoever wrote that Yellow is about the guy on the Wiggles, you are freakin' amazing. That made my day. (:
-
Yea, it's about God, but it's still confusing.

The song is a good tribute to the guy in yellow shirt who has left the 'Wiggles'; my daughter and I have had great fun watching Wiggles and miss the guy in yellow.......that is my take of the lyrics.
-
The interpretation that it was written for his goddaughter the most sense. It sounds as if he is welcoming someone into the world. There's a book called "on the day you were born" and it mentions looking at the stars and the world and how they all stopped the moment you came. I also had jaundice when I was born so it makes sense to mention yellow things that are beautiful because she is beautiful no matter what she looks like and will become more so

To be honest, I always thought this song had something to do with coke. This is going to sound stupid but whenever I listened to the song, I imagined this trashy coke head singing about his lady. His main goal in writing the song is to impress her.. but in the end, his pathetic attempt just led him to stated the obvious...
"I drew a line for you" a line of coke. Haha.
"for you id bleed myself dry"... with his frequent nose bleeds, the most romantic thing he could come up with had to do with his addiction.
"your skin and bones" seeing as though one of the leading characteristics of a coke head is being skin and bones.
And last but not least "yellow"... a common term and type of coke.
HEY... I'm not saying any of this is true but next time you listen to the song... look at it from my point of view... Trust me, its much more entertaining. Haha -
I think it is about a breakup. The guy felt like his world evolved around her. And he would do anything for her. Hence the lines, "Look how they shine for you... I'd jump across for you..." And then they broke up and he had to accept it hence the line, " I drew a line for you..." It was the line he drew between their relationship. I hope this doesn't sound bad to you!! I just like it because it's about love. I LUV COLDPLAY!!

Hes talking about the girl he loves is dying.
Your skin and bones turn into something beautiful is referring to going to heaven
look at the stars see how they shine for you means she sees light
and right before she dies he tells her all the things he has done for her and how much he loves her -
I fell in love with this song on accident. I was looking for a song that I heard on a movie and came across yellow. The minute I heard it I loved it because I found it to be the most beautiful LOVE song I have heard in a while. I am a true romantic! I believe that this along with many other songs do have an original meaning behind it, however what I found in this song was LOVE LOVE LOVE unconditional LOVE. I find different meanings in different songs. You and I may relate to the same song in totally different ways. That is the beauty of music. Isn't that why you fell in with the songs you did. Because you related...however or why you related the point is you related to it. The meaning behind any song is what ever you feel it is. enjoy the song and love it because you love how it relates to you. I feel that the true meaning is not really important. If you feel the need to know what it means I would check a different website. This one has some crazy answers
