Coldplay: Yellow Meaning
Song Released: 2000
Yellow Lyrics
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, they were all yellow.
I came along,
I wrote a song for you,
And all the things you do,
And it was called yellow.
So then I took my turn,
Oh what a thing to have...

For those that say it's about Gwyneth Paltrow - do your research. This was written and recorded long before he even met her. Gah.

I think that the words are simple enough to have many intepretations. I would like image its God singing to us and how he loves us and sent his son to us. It makes me look up at the stars in wonder at what he has made. They look so simple being so far away but are of course unimaginable powerful. Awe inspiring.

Its about this person telling another person that "many people love you, I love you, everything you do is so beautiful, but you are not taking care of yourself, so many people love you for who you are and what you do, look at them they are so happy. "
the line in the song that says "and you are skin, oh yeah you are skin and bones, turn it to something beautiful" says that 'you are not taking care of yourself, and many people think you are beautiful, and if you believe you are beautiful, and show you are beautiful, then all the world can know.'
the line "look at the stars, look how they shine for you" says that this perosn is loved by so many people, and they are happy to have that person in their life, and they don't want that person to go away. -
Well, everybody has their own interpretations, but the song wouldnt be called 'yellow' if it was only to make the whole thing rhyme. Those who have ever heard of jaundice will know that your skin turns yellow. It actually refers to a liver illment, and it makes you sick. I think that he wrote a song for a person suffering from a liver disfunction. It may sound funny, but it makes sense.

From looking at other interpretations on the web, it seems like no one is really sure or has any facts on what this song is about. But I believe it is a love song. It could be any type of love, love between siblings, between parent and child, between friends, or between partners. I guess we’ll never know, but when I listen to yellow I can interpret it as a love song. The word ‘yellow’ doesn’t actually have a significant meaning. It is simply a word that was able to fit in with the song. The meaning of the word can be interpreted in any way that the listener chooses to.

It was written before he got with gwyneth paltrow. If you'd rest the other posts, you'd know that.
He's stated before that it was for his sick goddaughter, but honestly, the beauty of songs is that everyone can find themselves in them, in their own particular way. -

Erm, skoobi686, have you not noticed that yellow was written before he got with gwyneth paltrow? And yellow is not a love song. It was written for his new born/pretty ill god daughter. It is a song of love, but not the romantic love your all thinking of.

No, it's not about an anorexic person;
the lyrics are
'your skin, oh yeah your skin and bones turn into something beautiful'.
So the skin and bones turn into something beautiful. This is a straightforward love song, to me it could have two interpretations;
Love between a man and a woman, unconditional and wonderful, or
love of God for people - he makes the stars shine for us, jumped across, bled himself dry... although Coldplay have never indicated this is a correct interpretation. -
