Coldplay: Yellow Meaning
Song Released: 2000
Yellow Lyrics
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, they were all yellow.
I came along,
I wrote a song for you,
And all the things you do,
And it was called yellow.
So then I took my turn,
Oh what a thing to have...
-
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
In truth, stars shine for the glory of God. Whether he wrote it for that reason or not, that's my interpretation.
-
What do you think about jealousy?.
-
I have always felt like this was a conversation that God was having with us. He is expressing his love for us, how he formed us out of the dirt and something beautiful. He would literally bleed for us and he did by sending Jesus to do it for us on the cross. How he formed the Earth for us to have somewhere to live, and the stars in the sky for us to see.
"I swam across, I jumped across for you"
Reminds me the story of Peter from the Bible when he walked on water with Jesus.
It's a kind of love that's beyond comprehension, and some say that the color yellow is one of the hardest colors that is seen by the human eye. So, it's hard to understand the love that God has for us, but despite that, it still exists. -
It sounds like it about his mom and liver cancer.
-
Not even Chris Martin knows what this song is about. He said it himself. The beauty of Yellow is that it just came to him. It's organic; it has no cut and dry meaning. The interpretation is totally up to the interpreter. Don't think too hard. It's beautiful because it's simple.
-
Maybe it was or was not the intentions of the writer, but this and MANY MANY more speak of the Love and characteristics of God.
Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
the bible speaks of God placing the stars in the sky to be a guide by night (Jer 31:35)
they were all yellow
science has proven that the color yellow is the most difficult color for the eye to "take in". This statement could(abstractly) mean "It is hard to see" or understand.
I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
this world is often referred to as Gods canvas(his painting)as his creation. This world is a work of art... and he made it, he made it for us.
It was called yellow
again - "It is hard to see" or understand.
So then I took my turn
Oh what a thing to've done
Took his turn to live among us as Jesus...
was all yellow
"It is hard to see" or understand.
Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
As we grow and gain knowledge we can we understand this statement better
And you know
You know I love you so
You know I love you so
I swam across
I jumped across for you
jumped across from the heavens to here, for us
Oh what a thing to do
Cuz you were all yellow
"It is hard to see" or understand.
I drew a line
I drew a line for you
The ten commandments are a line, a line between good and evil. this line was drawn to shed light on the evil within us....
..the apple was the start of our knowledge of good AND EVIL.
Oh what a thing to do
And it was all yellow
"It is hard to see" or understand.
Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
And you know
For you I'd bleed myself dry
For you I'd bleed myself dry
The blood shed on the cross
It's true -
He's really talking about doing cocaine, and how the stars were shing for them, but they do cocaine so that prevents them from shining the way they were suppose to be.
"I drew a line,
I drew a line for you,
Oh what a thing to do,
And it was all yellow.". Also, listen to the other lyrics "I bled myself dry" your nose bleeds when you sniff cocaine. -
I dedicated this song to the girl i loved, so i interpret it as romantic love, "bleed myself dry" is one way for him to say that he would take her pain for herif it meant she wasn't hurting, and the liver part about his mom is true, but still this song has many meanings and interpretations, all of which could be the right ones, another line that catches you is "your skin, oh yah your skin and bones, turn into something beautiful" i see this as him saying that shes beautiful but has that personality that keeps his love for her strong, this could mean that beauty is only skin deep, skin her skin and bones, she has true beauty both in and out
-
I have scene an interview with the band and this song means almost nothing, they just kind of wrote it
-
My grandma died of liver cancer, and when I heard this song it fit so perfectly it made me cry. I think someone close to him died.
-
I read in a magazine that the song was written by the Coldplay lead singer for his wife Gwyneth Paltrow when she was down with jaundice. Jaundice is known to turn the skin and eyes yeah-llo.
-
It's about death. My gram just died in the holspital she was all yellow. Skin and bones turn to something beautiful, a heavenly being like stars and this person was damn near perfect in his eyes. Look how they shine for you and all that you do: death of a loved one.
-
To me this song is about the incredible realisation of a parents love their new-born child who has been born prematurely and also has yellow jaundice. The words 'your skin and bone - turn into something beautiful' is the transition of seeing a new-born baby with transluscent skin and attached to lots of 'lines' (which is a sight that is hard to absorb when you are a new parent) to turning into a beautiful, beautiful adorable baby. I will never forget that moment in my life, To rest of the words fall into place after that. The word 'yellow' is suddenly a much talked about word due to the 'jaundice' and also you become very aware of the elements outside - after spending so much time in the hospital - so 'look at the stars, how they shine for you' is possibly an interpretation of being aware of the spiritual support you are receiving. That is something I was certainly aware of and gave me great strength.
