I guess Mark Tremonti could write this song for his wife Victoria while she was still being his girlfriend, because the song was release 2001's ending and they got merried in 2002. To my point of view if we analize the first phrase "To whom i owe this gift my friend? my life, my love, my soul" sound like a gratitude, the chorus is an invitation to leave outside and discover the world together

It's about one's struggle with depression, as we've found out Scott is bipolar now and this song was written at a time where he felt he wanted to leave all this and get away.

I think it is about these two people are trying to escape the terribleness of the world and they try to find a place to hide in time.
