Creed: My Sacrifice Meaning
Song Released: 2001
My Sacrifice Lyrics
We meet again
It's been a while
Where should we begin?
Feels like forever
Within my heart
Are memories
Of perfect love that
You gave to me
Oh, I remember
When you are with me
I'm free, I'm careless
I believe
Above all...

#1 top rated interpretation:When I first heard this song, listening to the lyrics brought me back to a time when I was younger saying hello to the old me or younger me. A time when I was careless and free, a time when It felt like I could fly. That's why he's thinking about those times and it brings tears to his eyes.
My childhood, a perfect love that it gave to me. It was my sacrifice, you lose your childhood & you have to sacrifice it to grow up.
To me it seem he was singing to himself who he was or used to be, his childhood memories.
That is why he said, "We've seen our share of ups and downs and how quickly life can turn around in an instant..."
cuz, we all get a taste of life the good, the bad and soon grow up!
I teared up listening to this song thinking about myself and the times when I was younger how quickly I had to grow up and lose my childhood and this song is like me going into the deepest part of me seeing the child in me and saying hello again...
I don't know if you guys get this, but yeah I just wanted to share it... that is what this song means to me. If you listen to it again maybe it will have the same meaning to you also. But we all have different thoughts ;) -

#2 top rated interpretation:The truth behind the song
I believe the song is referring to his Christian walk with God honestly. The only perfect love is gods love because no matter what you have done, where you have been god accepts you for who you are all you have to do is ask for him in your heart. In this first verse I know he is talking to god saying this( Hello my friend, we meet again
It's been awhile, where should we begin?
Feels like forever
Within my heart a memory
A perfect love that you gave to me
Oh, I remember) this is after a struggle he has had in his life where he has strayed and now reuniting with god. In the chorus he explains it all about how he feel being with god.
(When you are with me I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
My Sacrifice)
God as his sacrifice. Because he is our ultimate sacrifice.
Then the second verse he is searching to know god more and live a life as he did.
(We've seen our share of ups and downs
Oh how quickly life can turn around
In an instant
It feels so good to realize
What's in yourself and within your mind
Let's find peace there)
then he wrote the bridge just to say hello again.
that is the way I feel about the song and what I know about it.

#3 top rated interpretation:I believe the song is speaking of a woman that he used to be with and he is now beginning to start to make something happen again.. Thus the "hello my friend we meet again" and when he says "where should we begin" I think it is supposed to be understood by the listener that they have a conversation that they have some sort of conversation. He says "feels like forever, within my heart of memories, a perfect love that you gave to me.." he is expressing gratitute for her being with him because he was so much in love with her. "I remember" he remembers being with her. "above all other..." meaning that she was unmatched, and no one could be as memorable as her. The most important aspect however, is in the title of the song, as the title almost always holds the key ideas of the meaning to a song. The whole song is about some sort of sacrifice. He says "this brings tears to my eyes, my sacrifice" His sacrifice is that he thinks she will be happier with someone else, and because he loves her so much, he will not make an attempt to stop her from being with someone else. He obviously wants to tell her how he feel, but that would defeat the whole purpose because it would give her something else to worry about, when he just wants her to be happy. However, at the end of the song, he decides to tell her, which would be when the music stops and he keeps singiing, and the rest is up to your own point of view to what the rest means.

So I had just watched a video of Scott talking about this song that he wrote. He says it is about his drug addiction. In the video when he is pulling himself out of the water he says that is the Scott he used to know before he got into drugs. Which is why he sings "I just want to say hello again"the whole song is written about him before he was on drugs and after he was on drugs and he basically wants to be off drugs again and be back to his old self that he knew and loved. But this song can be taken many ways, as for reuniting with a past love or spiritually. I think this song was such a hit for that reason, so many people were able to relate to it for many different reasons. It's a great song and Scott has a great voice!

I always thought this song was about 9/11 and lives lost that day, their families and survivors of that horrific event. My sacrifice was released a few months after that tragedy and seemed to resonate among people
-
its about his youth and the love of his life that he left behind to pursue other dreams, study or grow. He never find that feeling of freedom and acceptance she gave to him. He sacrificed her and they met again thats why he "just want to say hello again" too much feelings coming to surface in a simple phrase.

I just recently lost my brother/best friend. This song was sent to me by him. Weather you believe in after life or not, that’s your call. I was in my friends house while she was away and
Her echo dot wasn’t connected to WiFi (I kept trying to play music on it) but then this song randomly comes on.
I unplug the echo dot after hearing some of the lyrics and knew I was being weird. Plugged it back in and the song restarts without WiFi. To me, my brother was telling me he loved me and he was okay and that what he did wasn’t because of me ♥️ -
This song I think is about “ himself “ hello my friend we met again .. is him finding himself after a long while!! Nite how he is surrounded by water on a boat— reaches in and grabs himself up from the depths of drowning... whatever message you get .. this is a great song and very much a wake up kinda song

It is no secret that Scott Stipe has battled a life of depression and substance abuse. While people perceive Creed to be a Christian band with God as the focus to their music, I don't believe that is the underlying message of the song My Sacrifice. To me it is clear that this song is about his love affair with heroin and subsequent battle with addiction.

The beginning of Creed’s music video for “My Sacrifice” focuses on an elderly man sitting by himself. He is blind, judging by total whiteness of his eyes. This man is an older Scott Stapp. The man sits there, thoughtful, until he begins to sink into a reverie. The camera follows him into his reverie, zooming in on his ghostly eyes, deep enough to see his memories.
The ensuing music video is the old man’s daydream. It’s a general flashback of his younger years. Everyone is carrying on in his old neighborhood as they used to all those years ago, except everything is covered with about 5 feet of water. There are kids playing baseball, the old movie house and even the mailman. No one is bothered by the water. There are childhood friends, old girlfriends and monks (representing rigid religiosity).
As Scott floats along in his simple boat, he sees a fist rise out of the water, which he grasps and pulls upward. The fist is connected to a replica of himself. His other self rises up out of the water and sits down in the boat with himself. He does a similar rising out of the water in his music video for “With Arms Wide Open.” This represents his baptism, or the momentous occasion when he came to life spiritually. When Stapp was baptized he was buried with Christ in death so that he might rise again with Christ in His resurrection, leaving all sin behind, washed clean in God's sight forever.
Toward the End of Creed’s music video for “My Sacrifice” there is a violent storm swirling around, filling the air with all kinds of debris. Stapp sits in a nearby diner as he watches a boy take shelter from the storm under a truck. Out in the middle of the storm there is motherly-looking young woman who does her best to stand up to the wind. Despite her violent surroundings, she does her best to look hopeful. This seems to be Stapps supportive mother. The storm dies down and Scott walks out of the diner, to embrace the boy. The music video ends with the boy’s eyes fading to white, matching the aforementioned old man’s eyes. The eyes zoom back out again and it is the old man coming out of his daydream.
“My Sacrifice” gives a glimpse into Scott Stapp’s lifelong spiritual journey. The song addresses someone called “My Sacrifice.” This must be Jesus Christ. Who else has died as a sacrifice and yet still lives today so that He might be addressed?
A lesson from “My Sacrifice” is: The journey Christ's people take with Him is real. This journey involves genuine life-experience. The general summation of our lives impacts our spiritual existence and visa versa. The most significant turning point anyone might experience throughout their entire life-experience is baptism in Christ. -
I think Mr Tashvang is right.. the video conveys the same meaning.. if you carefully observe the scenes of video.. kids are playing in a flooded area... so they are happy..always... U can see the priests sailing on boat which shows they understand what life is and they can move with eternal peace without being so happy and being so sad about anything..But You can see ordinary people floating half immersed.. they struggle since they lack the real awareness about Life and understanding themseleves.. "The inner ME" . The singer is talking about finding himself from the drama of life and he chooese to do that.. We can see him lifting himself from water.. I wish I could write more about the song... Its about self realization and may be achieving the happiness we had when we were kids

I feel it's about connecting with his true self but it feels like he didn't want to recall his childhood because of some tragic event and from then on he made a journey trying to ease the pain and escaping from himself but when he finally could connect, he connected to God and left the hurting life. The sacrifice is that he probably had to leave dear ones and a way of life to step into the light.....changing a life leaves dear people behind because not all can have the courage to leave the darkness.
"Hello my friend" is to himself when he was a boy with a kind heart. -
I think the singer is reconnecting with God after losing his faith x
-
i think that this song is about him going to heaven and seeing god again because he says in the starting line hello my friend we meet again
-
It could be a Christian message as "my sacrifice" is talking about Jesus. It could also mean the reuniting of someone that was once dear to you, and realizing the sacrifice you made for them. But most likely it's talking about self sacrifice in life, and being careful not to lose your identity in the process. Watch the video and you'll see that Scott pulls someone out of the water during the part "I just want to say hello again", and that someone is himself. He was re-discovering himself. Also watch the live video on Youtube and Scott say before he sings that it's "our sacrifice."
-
i believe it's about a sacrifice one remembers, which he made for the greater good or for himself. That's why he feels relief recalling it(when you are with me i'm free..this brings tears to my eyes..).
I know it doesn't seem to stick very much with other parts.
Though if you go deeper, you can assume he's just given that sacrifice an anthropomorphic simile:
Perfect love(=happiness)that you gave to me
Hello my friend(=sacrifice) we meet again(=i remember you)
Our share of ups and downs(=obstacles on the route)
FInally,at the end he expresses the religious hope that this sacrifice will grant him eternal life("i just want to say hello again").This empowers my suspicion that what the song refers to is a sacrifice and not a person. -
I think the song can be interperited in many ways, biblical/religion, relationship with a woman, but I interpret it as there was a tragic life threatening incident in his life that allowed him to revisit a prior tragic loss or incident in life.
He came to see things and or reunite with someone or something not of this world but in spirit.
I interpret his sacrifice as him giving up something to be close to this something again, maybe even meaning his life!!! -
Could be that he is married with kids and fell in love with another rwoman but he is sacrificing his love for her to keep his family together
