Elton John: Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny) Meaning
Song Released: 1982
Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny) Lyrics
As the New York sunset disappeared
I found an empty garden among the flagstones there
Who lived here
He must have been a gardener that cared a lot
Who weeded out the tares and grew a good crop
And now it all...

I like the connection to Ms. Farrow and I also liked Elton's ability to call an insect an insect. But, I think the line, "Now nothing grows no more" is inaccurate, because there was a GREAT DEAL of growth after Lennon died. Elton's song was a big part of that growth, as was the fact that John Lennon is constantly quoted, by everyone who believes in peace and liberty.

The insect is Mark David Chapman.

This song is about the death of John Lennon.
-
It's about John Lennon after he was murdered, the isect is the killer and the grain is John. John was a devoted gardener in life.
