Evanescence: Everybody's Fool Meaning
Song Released: 2004
Everybody's Fool Lyrics
Icons of self indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that
Never was and never will be
Have you no shame don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled
Look here she comes now
Bow down and...
-
I think this song is about Amy being tired of all the lies about the celebrities, and them being fake and everything. I think she wants to show the world that not everyone has it perfect and some people are hurting and are tired of all the fakers and posers. And in the music video, she's also tired of her being addressed as a faker or something she's not when she really wants to be herself. If you've watched the music video, she is an actress for a brand called "Lies" and she doesn't want to live the lies or whatever. And when she drinks the medicine, breaks the mirror and stabs her hand, and tries to drown herself in the water, I think she's showing that she doesn't want to live that life anymore and she just wants to be herself. I really like this song and I think some people *coughcough* preps, fakers, and posers *coughcough* need to watch the music video and get it in their mind that not everyone is perfect or as good as they think they are!

Ok, I'm no expert on songs but I am going to share my interpretation of this song what I think it means. First of all, I really don't think it's about Britney Spears like a couple of people have said, I just think it's about someone who is pretending to be something or someone they are not, and not showing who they really are. Telling people what they want to hear just for attention and to be noticed, and in the end they realize they are the fool because they are lying to themselves as well, and now people see them for what they really are....I could be wrong but that's what I think it's about. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...thanks.

I don't think it's about herself.
i think it's about demons.
she says 'somehow now you're everybody's fool''.
i don't really think that the video has anything much to do with it.
''more lies about a world that never was and never will be.''
demons will try to fool you into believing anything except for God. They tell you lies and deceive everyone. The sad thing is that most people believe it.
''you know you've got everybody fooled.''
yes, the demons know when they have tricked you. and when they do trick you, they are terribly happy with themselves.
''no flaws when you're pretending.''
they demons pretend to be anything they need to be to get you to believe what they want you to believe. when they are busy pretending, they can make up anything, make up the perfect, flawless lie.
''you don't know how youve betrayed me.''
she was believing in the lies that the demons were telling her. at first, even she didn't know how they had betrayed her. Then she realizes it and comes to say that they don't know.
"without the mask, where will you hide? can't find yourself lost in your lie."
without the mask of satan, demons have nowhere to hide. once they start lying to make you believe a lie, they get lost in it and continue lying to everyone.
"I know the truth now, I know who you are. and I don't love you anymore."
she realized that everything she had believed was a lie. That's hard to deal with. She knows where the lies were coming from. and she doesn't want to love that anymore.
"you're not real and you can't save me."
the demons aren't real to her anymore. She's seen through them now and finds that they can't save her, all they do is kill, destroy, and lie.
does that help with anything? =] -
I think this song is a girl talking to herself about how she wanted to be recognized but now everyone thinks she's someone she's not
-
It is describing people who are trying to hard to fit in, trying to be something they're not. They wear a certain style of clothes to fit in etc. The basic message is you are only fooling yourself and everybody's laughin at you for being a fool hence the title. Basically just be yourself
-
I just wanted to say, yeah it's about celebrities and how they hide who they are in actuality, but the laugh by the girl on the elevator near the end of the music video is really freaky at the end, sends chills down my spine.

"She has stated on a number of occasions that she would never flash her breasts or engage in other publicity stunts that would draw attention to herself. In fact, in the music video for "Everybody's Fool," she aimed to mock such artists by suggesting that celebrities who use sex to appeal to an audience are, in fact, merely peddling "lies" (the unifying theme of the music video). Many fans praise Lee for her refusal to emulate other celebrities by using sex appeal in her music."

Amy's little sister, Carrie (8 at the time), got obsessed with popstars like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Carrie started to dress like those two popstars and this angered Amy and this was the inspiration for the song.
I think Everybody's Fool is a really strong song. Imagine you're Amy's little sister and you hear that your big sister wrote you a song. And when you read the lyrics, you see there's nothing positive in it.
I really like this song actually. It seems like this song is telling us to be ourselves and not try to be like one of those popstars who makes music videoes where they only wear a tiny skirt and a bra. -
Amy's sister was becoming obsessed with Brittany Spears and other pop singers, and started dressing like them at I think it was age 7 or 8... So Amy told her that celebrities can't make your life perfect, their lives aren't perfect, and you should never copy someone just because it's popular. Then she wrote the song about it- her sister (Carrie I think?)inspired it

It's about a girl who tried to act like someone she isn't and thought that she was fooling everyone, but it turned out that all along, they could see right through the cover and they were mocking her all along.
-
How the hell and more importantly, WHY the hell would Amy Lee want to sing about Britney Spears?! Why would anyone for that matter, want to write about her?! She's a has-been, end of!
I'm not going to say that I KNOW FOR A FACT what this song means, because no one but the beholder can claim this. However, I'll give my input as to what I believe it is about and if I am criticised for it then so be it - you're more narrow minded than I thought you were.
Basically, I think Amy has written this song about herself - maybe she doesn't like who she has become OR she didn't like what she became in the past.
"I know the truth now, I'm over you now"
She now knows the truth about herself, and is over the fact that she was what she was.
Anywhoo, thanks for listening (or reading, perhaps)

I am pretty sure it was about Britney Spears cos Amy's sister liked her or something so she tried to show how much of a fake she actually is.
