Evanescence: Going Under Meaning
Song Released: 2003
Going Under Lyrics
Fifty thousand tears I've cried
Screaming, deceiving and bleeding for you
And you still won't hear me, going under
Don't want your hand this time, I'll save myself
Maybe I'll wake up for once
Not...

I absolutely agree with the person: "Submitted by: anonymous
Added: 2006-08-01 12:17:30" All these songs on that cd relate
Taking over me: talks about how she believes in God and will do anything to find him/her and how she's got to be with God.
in Tourniquet she starts to realize she messed up and is asking God for forgiveness. That is very obvious since she even used the name Christ in the song. She used other strong words that can relate to faith such as deliverance, salvation ect.
then her faith starts to decline in Going Under
She questions God and even says that she has to break from him because she can 'save herself' anyone that is trying to figure out their religion notices this happening to them, they can't even trust themselves because its so hard to figure out if they should believe in God or themselves.
Then finally in 'Everybody's Fool' she talks about how decieving God is and how He is said to be perfect but she thinks He's not. She thinks that under the mask its just a bunch of lies and a larger part of society is fooled by it -
"Now I will tell you what I've done for you, 50,000 tears I've cried. Screaming, decieving, and bleeding for you and you still won't hear me. I'm going under!"
I think that she's trying to say that she's doing a whole bunch of favors and stuff like that for a bunch of people, but they just won't appreciate her. That's what the song sounds like in the beginning in my own opinion. -
She's struggling with alcohol problems that she wants to break free from, watch the video. It helps her get over her stage fright and now its a problem and she's drowning in it. nothing to do with men at all!

It sounds like she is saying how she is doing a lot for someone but they don't seem to notice. When they finally do it is too late she wants to be left alone. And now they are smothering her but she can't get out or leave. Also she is confused as to what to do.

Evanescence was never a real christian rock band. David hodges actually left because of this. He was pulling the band into a more christian direction than amy and ben moody were comfortable with.
Moody states: "amy and I are christians, but we are not a christian band. We write about a number of things, just things we experience in life. Because our spirituality is a big part of our lives, it comes through in our music. But our lives are our ministry. Our music is just a way for us to convey the message to those who listen that they are not alone."
The song is about an unhealthy, possibly abusive relationship. That's it. -
To start out, I'm just gonna say that, even though most people don't know this, evanescence was a christian singer before she got kicked out. I think that she's trying to get the "word of god" out to this people, but they won't listen. When she says "i've got to break through", I think she's saying that she's got to breack through everyone's denial and disbelief. "screaming deceiving and bleeding for you" I think that when she says that, she's telling these people that won't listen to her that she's trying to save them and get them into heaven. And then when she says "and you still won't hear me", she's saying that they still won't listen to her. "blurring and stirring the truth and the lies
so I don't know what's real and what's not
always confusing the thoughts in my head
so I can't trust myself anymore
i'm dying again" I think that when she says hat, she's saying that she's not sure if god's real anymore or if it's just all in her head, and she feel's like she's dying without god's hand to support her. I think that when she says "drowning in you
i'm falling forever", she's saying that she's getting pulled under and her faith is being tested by all of the athiests. And, to conclude, at this part: "so go on and scream
scream at me I'm so far away
i won't be broken again
i've got to breathe I can't keep going under", she's saying that she is putting her trust in god and standing true for him. -

My own interpretation with a deep understanding about the world of eating disorders...
It is about her battle with an eating disorder. We call him ED (it really feels like he is an actual person, or some kind of higher power). She screams, deceives others about her secret, and bleeds for him (because she worships him), yet she wants to escape from his daily torment and lies. She's spent so much time listening to him that she confuses the lies- the promises that thinness brings happiness, that she's fat, that nobody will love her, that food is poison, that she has control- for the truth, and she can't trust her own judgment anymore. She doesn't know what's real and what's not when she looks into the mirror. She has a skewed perception and is somewhat dimorphic. Sometimes she feels like she is losing the battle (she thought she had reached the bottom- like rock bottom, and that should have woken her up), but he still has a grip on her (she's going under again). She's exhausted and angry for what he has done to her. She can't take it anymore and she has to break through by telling him that she won't hold his hand anymore, she can save herself from him and the pain that he's been numbing. He can scream at a distance, but she won't listen because all the promises were lies and she can’t keep going under. -
I think what she's trying to say is that after all she gave to the "guy" in some way he never loved for real now she's confused, her feelings are twisted in her mind, but in some way she still loves him and keeps drowning in him ... She can't escape

"Now I will tell you what I've done for you
50 thousand tears I've cried
Screaming Deceiving and Bleeding for you"
Doesn't mean it's about a guy.. The way I see it, she's talking to her reflection, or herself. No matter what she does, she can't change who she is and she hates it.
"Always confusing the thoughts in my head
So I can't trust myself anymore"
Those two lines back that point up. She's drowning in her own unhappiness, her self-loathing. -

This song is like a lot of Linkin Park songs. You can't pin-point an EXACT situation, so it could be about a guy, but the other points in your interpretations do fit.
