Evanescence: Lies Meaning
Lies Lyrics
Sealed with lies through so many tears
Lost from within, pursuing the end
I fight for the chance to be lied to again
You will never be strong enough
You will never be good enough
You were never...

I think this song is definitely about her trying to break free from Satan's lies and really follow Christ. The reason that Evanescence plays depressing music is because following Jesus is not supposed to be easy. If you truly die to yourself, the Jesus talks about it, the world will rage against you. This can make you depressed sometimes, because you're not the god of your own life, but it's the only way to truly live. Even though Satan lies to you, and says you have to get your fulfillment right now.

I would never have thought of this song as religious. I don't agree with all that crap that Evanescence is a Christian band.. They sing about suicide, abuse, ghosts and well... Fans will know. But I don't see how any of it is Christian!
But anyways, I can kinda see how it alls ties in to being relgious and about Jesus and whatnot.
I like the start of this song, and the music's really good all the way through.
I think they could use this song in the future, it has potential. -
Well, I think it is religious, think about it, "rest in me and I'll comfort you, I have lived and I've died for you, abide in me and I vow to you: I will never forsake you"
Jesus Christ lived and died for us, if you seek his help, he will comfort you, and if you believe in him, when judgment day comes, he will never forsake you... That's what I think, maybe it's about Amy being all depressed and seeking help in Jesus, after all, it's not the only religious song she as, there's also October... -

Hmmm you all think that every time, everywhere Satan is evil, and hat if this isn't true...
Maybe he says the part
Rest in me and I'll comfort you
I have lived and I died for you
Abide in me and I vow to you
I will never forsake you
because, after all,he was an angel too,God's angel and he served him,he was his slave, for ever, can we really blame Satan for willing freedom?
I don't think so...,Satan would never forsake to us,as God did to him,and to all of us that judge him and seek the truth and don't believe all these lies...
The light that breaks through her/his tears is the truth, what he sees and a new voice calling him,and the ''evil voice'' behind is really, what the church hides from us,that God wants everything to be done his way,no matter what, even if he has to kill and forsake to our souls, wich he made himself only yo please his inner hunger of blood, death destruction and slavery -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
The lyrics "you'll never be good enough you were not concieved in love" seem to refer to the concept of original sin. Song seems to me like person's inner conflict w/concepts of Christianity.
-
From what I've heard, Amy Lee was /not happy/ during the recording of this song. Thus it's only natural the song is dark; she is not the most well off of us in terms of personal history. Fan-girlish facts aside, the song is ours to interpret. Songs rarely have one set meaning, but the writer usually means to simply give us a story and let us make it ours. That's what makes Evanescence such a well-liked band: their lyrics touch so many because they are open to interpretation.

This song is the inner battle Amy was experiencing with herself, saying in her mind "you'll never be strong enough enough..." as at the time of Origin through to Fallen she was depressed.
-
In the beginning, she is being pulled down by everyone. She is belittled, insulted, and humiliated to the point where she starts to hate herself and feel there is no way out.She is very hurt but she struggles on despite everything to prove herself, however, it is proving to be futile.
Then, when she is about to give up and give in,thinking nobody loves her and she is so insignificant and useless, christ speaks to her and shows her he loves her.She is loved despite what she thinks and he will always love her, no matter what.
At the end, she accepts and then vows not to give up ,assuming the "I'll never be" is "they'll never see me become nothing like what they say I am" -
Sounds like an abusive relationship to me.
-
It's about either: being lied to or lying to everyone. Depends on the version. They ain't religious. My church would kill me for listening to it. Xp
-
Well, I think that the more known version of lies (with vocal opening) if it's not religious it is about consieving or convincing .....lies.... from the liar's point of view while the latter (lies remix)i s about the one being lied too saying no I won't do that.
-
And it also depends on which version you're looking ag
For examle, this is another version evanescence recorded:
Blind my limbs with fear
You choke me with tears
I won't die for you
You've been here before
And come back for more
But not this time
You will never be strong enough
You will never be good enough
You have never concieved in love
You will not rise above
Chorus:
Somebody tell me what made us all believe you
I should've known all along it was all a lie
I should've known it was all a lie
Now I know the truth
I'm through fearing you
And I am free
You will never be strong enough
You will never be good enough
You have never concieved in love
You will not rise above
Chorus:
Somebody tell me what made us all believe you
I should've known all along it was all a lie
I should've known it was all a lie
(Chanting)
Chorus 2*
This version sounds like it's more of a relationship song rather than a religious. -
Well, if you look at the song ina non-religious sense, it comes across as a song about a person that constantly puts you down, insults you, belittles you, degrades you, exploits you etc. To the point that it drives someone to self hate and anger.
